Photography (with Foundation) - BA (Hons)

University of Gloucestershire

The lecturers are very supportive and able to accommodate your needs and interests. They are very friendly and able to help you build your confidence. The photo stores have a lot of equipment to borrow for free and they can offer advice about what you should use. The course is very engaging and practical and will get you out and photographing from the start. There is quite a lot of work and you will need to be dedicated but it is rewarding and you can quickly see yourself grow as a photographer. And you can always chat to the lecturers to make a plan for how to get to where you want to be. The course could be improved by having more facilities on the campus where the course is based. The university experience could be improved by having more engagement from the Student Union. The maintenance and help zone could be more active in sorting out issues as it feels like a lot of student effort is needed to get them to start solving an issue.

I really love the course I'm doing and how interactive and informative it is as a whole, it's really been the highlight of my uni experience so far. If I was to say anything that could improve it would be the student unions involvement as I haven't heard as much as I had expected.

Cheltenham is a great town to be in for university, everywhere is walkable, there is a great variety of shops and social locations. The various of campuses all have their strengths. Hardwick (my campus) has its strengths with the darkroom, stores of equipment to hire and studio spaces while it is let down by the quality of teaching space. Overall though, Hardwick is a good campus and the lecturers themselves, with their experience and support make up for the room we sit in.

There are so many useful facilities and equipment on offer for all photography students, with multiple free techniticans that are always willing to give demonstrations or inductions so the university really opens up your creative freedom in this way.

The wide range of facilities, equipment, help, societies and opportunities makes UoG a fun place to study. Being in a large town means there are so many different places to explore and find yourself within. With an excellent transport hub, a day out is so easy and cheap with the buses. The staff and tutoring are friendly, approachable and will always treat you with respect and as a peer, something I truly value.
