The Centre for Integrated Research in Life and Health Sciences was established in 2021, to encapsulate and take fullest advantage of a distinctive aspect of research in the school - that our work can span and integrate three distinct dimensions:

Disciplinary/Methodological – ethnographic, empirical; computer, lab, field

Taxonomic – humans, (other) vertebrates, invertebrates, microbes

Biological levels – molecular, cellular, organismal, ecosystem

Fully harnessing the potential that this configuration presents, our vision is to explore fundamental questions about health; critically, we conceptualise health in the broadest way – the natural and adaptive functioning of people, of organisms and of diverse natural systems. Through the development of broad inter-disciplinary research themes and associated activities, we aim to break down traditional discipline boundaries and bring together teams of people to address key research questions in new ways through their diverse and distinct combinations of expertise. Our two current research themes are: People, Animals & Environment, and Health, Performance & Physiology.
