Build on your engineering expertise and use your knowledge to understand your clients' challenges before developing innovative solutions. Become a leader in your field Building innovative sustainable solutions to today's problems requires leaders who can understand and apply the skills of diverse teams. On this course, you’ll build on your current engineering experience to look at problems as systems of unknown dependencies. By studying the current approaches, and doing your own research, you’ll learn to handle complex engineering problems that require you to build and manage potential solutions. As part of this course, you’ll: Study the core engineering fields of control and simulation to understand, predict, and manage the behaviour of complex systems Learn to apply solutions to complex problems in the context of modern engineering design, lean and agile production, and highly automated systems Study management and research modules alongside engineering modules to build your skills in project management and independent research Together, these skills will give you the ability to take your current engineering knowledge in new directions. On this course, you’ll: Develop innovative sustainable products that address global problems Use simulated automation and management systems to analyse problems and test your solutions Build on your own research to investigate, build, or apply engineering knowledge to problems in your own area Industry standard, flexible learning This course offers flexible learning with a choice of two start dates. You’ll take the same modules, but the order will depend on which semester you choose to start. Whichever semester you start in, you’ll have access to: Industry standard software for simulation, modelling and analysis. This will include FlexSim, Ansys, Matlab, Autodesk CAD/CAM tools and SolidWorks A workshop including rapid prototyping machines, including laser cutters and 3D-printers Specialist labs for programmable logic controllers (PLC) and programmable automation controllers (PAC) design and automation. This will include model factory layout for process optimisation and links to our in-house cloud computing stack Full access to electronic and electrical engineering labs to prototype, build and test your own solutions Study and network in a vibrant city Leeds is also a great city to build your professional contacts, with links to many companies in the digital, broadcast, software and manufacturing sectors. Many events from the major UK engineering institutions are hosted here, including our own professional body the IET. These events provide an excellent opportunity to build your network of contacts.
Applicants should either have at least a second class honours degree in the cognate subject of Engineering, at least a second class honours degree in a non-cognate subject supported by evidence of an aptitude for the subject applied for, or have equivalent experience or training, normally from within the work environment.
