Studying psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) has been an enriching & transformative experience. One of the best aspects of MMU is the quality of teaching & academic support. The lecturers are highly knowledgeable, approachable, & genuinely invested in students’ learning. They not only provide clear explanations of complex psychological theories but also encourage critical thinking, which is essential in our field. Additionally, the university offers a wide range of modules, allowing students to explore diverse areas of psychology—from cognitive & clinical psychology to social & forensic psychology. This flexibility has allowed me to tailor my degree to my interests & future career goals. Another positive aspect is the availability of resources & facilities. The library is well-stocked with both physical & digital resources, making research more accessible. MMU also provides excellent support services, such as academic workshops, mental health counseling, & career guidance, which have been invaluable during my time as a student. The university’s commitment to employability is evident through its work placements, internships, & industry connections, which help students gain practical experience & build professional networks. Socially, MMU fosters a welcoming & inclusive environment. The campus is diverse, & there are numerous societies & student-led initiatives, which allow students to pursue personal interests, make friends, & develop leadership skills. As a psychology student, I have found opportunities to collaborate on research projects or participate in psychology-focused events particularly rewarding. The city of Manchester itself also enhances the university experience, offering a vibrant cultural scene, entertainment, & opportunities for socializing outside of campus life. However, there are areas where the university could improve. One challenge has been the occasional lack of clarity in communication, particularly regarding administrative processes such as module registration or assessment deadlines. While information is available online, it can sometimes be overwhelming or inconsistent. Another area for improvement is resource availability during peak times, especially in the library or computer labs, where it can be difficult to find space or access specific materials. In terms of teaching, while most lecturers are excellent, some modules rely heavily on large lectures with limited interaction, which can make engagement difficult. More small-group sessions or practical workshops could enhance learning & allow for deeper discussion & application of psychological concepts. Additionally, while MMU offers strong career support, more tailored guidance for psychology students—such as advice on postgraduate study or niche career paths within psychology—would be beneficial. Overall, Manchester Metropolitan University has provided a supportive, academically stimulating, & socially engaging environment. It is a place where students are encouraged to grow intellectually & personally. The university’s strengths—quality teaching, excellent facilities, strong support services, & an inclusive community—make it an excellent choice for psychology students. While improvements in communication, resource availability, & certain teaching methods could enhance the experience, MMU remains a university that prepares its students well for both academic & professional success.

The facilities in the Brooks building are modern and clean. Technology is up to date and the staff, not just in the Brooks building but also around the whole campus, are friendly and welcoming. Any issue that I have I go to the student hub and I feel accepted and understood. The societies are active and have many members, which is a great way to make friends. I cannot think of anything I would want to improve at this time, this may be because I am in my first year, but it goes to show how impressive MMU really is.

Best - love the range of facilities across campus and range of societies/Social events Worst - wish there were more subject specific social events especially for department of psychology, and better counselling support
