A doctoral research project is a big commitment. However, you will be highly supported by our dedicated Graduate School, with subject expertise from your supervisory team, and by a welcoming international community of over 300 doctoral students.

  • Advanced water treatment for removal of micropollutants and microbes
  • Atp-binding cassette transporters in obesity - drug targets for long term chronic conditions
  • Environmental fate of chiral emerging pollutants
  • Exploring the integration of an education for sustainable development approach into pharmacy curricula
  • Fabrication of a polysensor to determine antioxidants in food matrices using novel materials
  • From plastic bottles to electrodes-fabrication of electrochemical biosensors determining phenolic compounds
  • Gut health - Control of dendritic cell function by intestinal epithelial cells and the microbiota
  • How Efficient are Facemasks for Preventing Spread of Pathogens
  • Investigating the role of IGFBP-5 in hypertension related fibrosis
  • Modelling obesity - interaction between macrophages and an angiogenesis cell model in vitro
  • New electrode materials for energy storage applications
  • Sustainable filter materials for microplastics and nanoplastics in wastewater
  • Synergistic anticancer effects via beneficial interactions between micronutrients and anti-cancer drugs
  • Synthesis and evaluation of novel multi-target compounds for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease
  • The in vitro effect of cannabidiol to improve chemotherapy drug uptake in breast cancer cells
  • The role of diet and impaired redox status in preventing long-term chronic conditions
  • Valorisation of food waste, bioactive natural products, green bio-sorbents and corrosion inhibitors
  • Valorising by-products from food and drink manufacturing and creation of circular opportunities

Entry requirements

Normal entry requirements are a Master's degree or first or upper second class honours degree in the relevant subject discipline from a UK or overseas University, or degree equivalent qualification, subject to the approval of Robert Gordon University. Applicants holding qualifications other than those above shall be considered on their merits and in relation to the nature and scope of the proposed research programme.
