The BSc (Hons) Mental Health Nursing degree at City St George's prepares students for a fulfilling and rewarding career in mental health nursing. On successful graduation students are eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Mental health nurses help patients understand and manage their condition, take positive steps towards recovery, and minimise the impact of their mental health on everyday life. Students learn to provide holistic compassionate care, and support patients of all ages and backgrounds with diverse conditions such as anxiety, depression, addiction, eating disorders, OCD, perinatal depression and more. Our priority is to ensure students graduate with the skills and knowledge to enter the mental health nursing profession with confidence. Teaching is a combination of classroom theory, simulated practice within our specialist Clinical Skills Centre and practice placements; where time is spent in a clinical environment gaining real-world experience working with London's diverse population in leading hospitals and community settings. We prepare students for all aspects of the profession, including dealing with emergency situations, the effect of patients’ physical health, detecting deterioration and how to approach, assess and provide the most appropriate care and treatment in differing situations. Career prospects are excellent for our Mental Health Nursing graduates - many secure employment within local London trusts and throughout the rest of the UK. As well as a career as a mental health nurse, graduates can move into areas within the health and social care sector including advising on policy and quality of care, and academic teaching and research.
