Course overview
Biomedical and medical research ultimately leads to the treatments of tomorrow. This course provides ideal training for students who wish to move onto a PhD course, or who simply wish to undertake a significant research project. The focus of this MRes is on a biomedical/medical research project in your chosen discipline.
Why study this course with us?
You will take two taught modules before moving to the research component. You will be able to choose your main discipline before joining the course, and this might include one from: cancer biology, cardiovascular disease, dementia, diabetes, gastroenterology, immunology, oncology, stem cell biology or psychological medicine. You will also join a research team at Chester Medical School and the medical staff at one of our partner hospital trusts.
The MRes provides excellent training for those who wish to continue to study towards the completion of a PhD at Chester and other universities.
Assessment
Assessment is largely through coursework. This culminates in the Research Dissertation, which is assessed by the production of an extended research article, suitable for publication in an appropriate research journal.

Applicants should normally possess a 2:1 honour degree in a related subject, such as biological sciences, medicine, or veterinary sciences. Students with relevant work experience, but without the required qualifications, should contact the Programme Leader. Applications are invited from: graduates of BSc Biomedical Science or BSc Clinical Science, those with related undergraduate degrees (e.g., Human and Biological Sciences) or equivalent professional qualifications and background experience, health professionals from overseas.
