Materials Engineering with a Foundation Year is designed for students who have not studied the required subjects for direct entry into year one of an undergraduate degree, or who have not met their expected entry criteria due to adverse personal circumstances, elite sports commitments, or those returning to education as mature students or care leavers.Loughborough University’s Foundation Studies programme is structured to support a broad range of students in achieving their university ambitions. With a streamed approach, the programme allows students to begin their studies within a broader academic pathway before progressing onto a specific degree-offering valuable time and flexibility to explore and choose the most suitable course.This programme is especially suited to:Students lacking the prerequisite subjects for direct first-year entryThose who did not meet entry criteria due to illness, caring responsibilities, or other extenuating factorsMature students or care leavers returning to educationElite athletes balancing academic study with high-level sport performance.Students on the course are full members of the University, with access to the Students’ Union, student clubs and societies, world-class sports facilities, and full student support services.
