Covid 19 has severely impacted my university experience and limited my socialising opportunities. Some sports like volleyball are unfortunately not recognised as Loughborough performance sport and hence need to pay and resources are very limited. However the campus does run mandatory test every single week making it safe towards the last semester,
Last year was an amazing experience but obviosuly due to covid this year, I don't feel like I've had a uni experience at all. Not had any social events to go to on campus and I feel distant from my coursemates but all in all, I enjoy uni and look forward to being able to get more involved again in my final year.
Haven't helped and checked in with us during the recruitment process. We have very much been left to our own devices with a hope that we know how to get support and where to look for placements. The career's network is very helpful and useful though for looking at your applications etc
Some modules and lecturers are absolutely amazing. Their knowledge and expertise is phenomenal. They are extremely helpful and want to help us learn. Other lecturers, however, don't seem to have confidence in what they are teaching as they don't understand it well themselves. They can be extremely hard to understand and because they don't have great understanding themselves, they aren't very helpful at answering questions. Online teaching has been extremely beneficial in taking notes and making the time you work more effective as you don't have to keep moving around. Some of the content doesn't seem very relevant/we go in to way too much detail on some things but not enough on other things. This is also due to the massive variation in teaching quality across the school.
Plenty of spaces across campus to study and being able to use different schools is really nice as you can work with other friends from across the university.
Career network is very helpful and so is having a personal tutor. I feel I very much have to reach out to my tutor though, he doesn't speak to me without me speaking to him.
The university provides the support and facilities to make my PhD a enjoyable and engaging even in with covid. I have stayed on to do my PhD after graduating with a BEng (Hons) as I believed I was in an environment that encouraged me to push myself further.
The university provides some of the worlds best facilities, however the amount of money does not entirely reflect that. The catered option at the halls is not the best idea, as the food is bland and also serves small portions. Everything else is paid for, such as gyms, sporting events and even freshers, which is not specified anywhere prior to university arrival. Therefore, if you are poor like me it’s hard to manage. However, the teaching is great, and is delivered by amazing people.
Haven’t received any job help, whilst any placement Year help also requires a extra payments
The Course itself is structured very well. However, due to the pandemic most lectures, seminars and even workshops have been moved to online learning.
The sports facilities are world class and the lecture halls are also incredible
Haven’t had any personal experience with this, but they do seem to operate well
The teaching has been to a quality standard but as it has been online it has been a struggle. Projects that required in person learning have been altered and toned down which is disappointing. Social life similarly has been non existent
Fortunate enough to be on placement year and receive ample support from the university. Regular contact was maintained by the university to ensure my well-being throughout the year.
Although the experience has not been what it could have been (due to COVID), I feel the university has tried hard to give us students as good and authentic experience as possible.
I love it, social, educational and feels like home I would recommend it to my peers and future students thinking about it I don’t regret going there and will miss it when I’m gone
They have great careers advice
My course is fantastic - my lecturers are amazing and teach using an interactive approach - everyone is helpful and wonderful apart from one lecturer who is new and he’s rubbish - he has no clue what he’s doing and we’re suffering for it
They have everything you could think of and top quality
Everything is fantastic apart from that one lecture
I am more than happy with my overall experience. I do not feel that COVID has hugely impacted my learning or my academic opportunities here at Loughborough. However, I feel like my student experience has been limited by reduced socialising, no events and so on. Nevertheless, it is what it is and there is no reason to complain. Overall, I am very happy with my experience at Loughborough University.
Course is taught in a blended fashion with some practicals happening face-to-face and other lectures being presented online. Lecturers are friendly, great and happy to provide all the support I need.
The facilities are maintained at very good standards considering the coronavirus situation. The University has been handling the situation very well!
Lecturers are generally helpful and personal supports are plentiful. Department provides opportunities for us to work with other professions within the industry which is great.
The uni has coped well with Covid and is trying to provide us with as many in-person opportunities as possible which is great. Lecturers and tutors are easy to reach out to and students from other years are helpful.
Amazing facilities but not all are accessible by students who are not in elite sport teams.
Personal tutor and peer mentor are very supportive.
