My best university experience was when I scored very high in an assessment for a course that was known to be very difficult. That course challenged me academically, and there were moments when I doubted myself because many students struggled with it. I had to put in extra effort, study consistently, and seek a better understanding of the concepts. When the results came out and I saw my score, it was a very proud moment for me. It gave me confidence in my abilities and reassured me that hard work truly pays off. That experience motivated me to approach other challenging courses with a positive mindset and determination. One of the worst aspects of my university experience happened on my very first day. I was trying to locate where my lecture was holding, and I assumed it was at the main campus. I later found out that engineering lectures were held at a separate college, which was about a 25-minute walk away. To make things worse, my train was delayed, so I was already running late. I remember feeling very confused, stressed, and overwhelmed that day because everything was new, and I didn’t yet understand how the system worked. That experience really messed up my day, but it also helped me learn quickly how to plan better and ask for directions when needed.

Being an international student at this university has been a truly great experience. The lecturers are amazing, and the study methods are both effective and enjoyable.

Studying at the University of Derby has been an incredible experience! From the moment I joined, I felt welcomed and supported by both staff and students. The university offers a fantastic learning environment, with modern facilities, well-equipped libraries, and access to a range of resources that have really helped me excel in my studies. One of the standout aspects is the quality of teaching. The lecturers are not only knowledgeable in their fields but also genuinely care about students’ success. They go the extra mile to provide guidance and support, making learning engaging and interactive. The small class sizes mean you get more personal attention, which has really helped me grow academically and p rofessionally. The campus itself is vibrant and friendly, with plenty of places to study, socialize, and relax. The student union organizes a variety of events and activities, so there’s always something to get involved in, whether it’s clubs, societies, or networking opportunities. Plus, Derby is a great city to live in—affordable, safe, and full of things to do! The university also places a strong emphasis on employability, offering career support, placement opportunities, and industry connections that make a real difference when preparing for the future. Overall, I highly recommend the University of Derby to anyone looking for a supportive, high-quality education in a great location. My time here has been unforgettable, and I feel well-prepared for my future career!

The university service teams are doing a great work by supporting students, engaging with them to understand their predicaments and provide avenues of support. The university via its various teams keeps working tirelessly to keep the standards up for the benefits of the students and staff. The student support services has been on top of their game in providing levels of support to students of all backgrounds, levels and class. For instance, at the university there is now a one-stop shop for all student queries, there are massive turnout of students each day with queries of all sorts and they leave with their expectations met. The library service has been doing well, but I have a concern for some students in some other campuses where the libraries were shut down. I think the university should always listen to students before making such kind of decisions. I would use this medium to add to the voices already out there for the restoration of those libraries. The area of improvement for me is with the student union. From my personal perspective, they have not improved their engagement strategies with students. As a matter of fact, they still recycle events of the past 3 years ago (a year after COVID-19). I think they have to level up with the demands of this present times with students by finding other ways to engage with students of all background. Also, I would suggest that the student union has to improve their engagement with the international students, particularly with events that are international students-centred.

Amongst the things that makes the university of Derby such a great place to study is that it gives you the opportunity to grow in the things you’re learning by creating platforms for On-Campus Internships while studying for every level, and also placement opportunities for her second year students. What could be improved about it is that the international students should be given the ambient environment to express themselves via leadership especially on the platform of the union of students, and as well harmonise the international students societies.
