University of Brighton

I've always felt very supported at Brighton by the staff who have consistently been open to listening, and view their students in a considerate and wholistic way which made me feel like they cared about me as a person, and not just my work and grades (although that is important too). Improvement wise I wish there was more consideration for those who are juggling work and study in terms of when events and workshops are organised, but also for the additional stress this puts on achieving a degree at any level.

The university is modern and has a very inviting feel to it. Student life at Uni is a key part and I have made lifelong friends and truly enjoy my time here outside of lectures. The lecturers are professional but know how to be engaging and fun which is always good in an educational setting.

A lot of the change that occurred within my course happened when I was finished with it, whilst I am excited at the prospect of new students getting better modules and learning, I wish it had been applied sooner. My course staff however have always been highly encouraging. Regardless of our setbacks, they remained engaged with us and always put time aside to support us. The university has great on campus support, they also have jobs which are well-paid with great experience to be gained. The shops on site are incredibly affordable and there is an amazing food bank. The support network is vast and inclusive, it never felt inaccessible to me. Again, given the setbacks my university went through in 2023, I wish there had been more entry support as it took me a long time to learn how to genuinely engage with my course and the support offered. I didn’t stop feeling regret entirely until the end of my second year, as when I joined, there was no events open to me or support which was easy to find. I hope that literature can be a larger focus for Brighton in the future, given how many universities are closing it and Brighton is labelled as an inclusive, radical city. The city in of itself is amazing, albeit expensive and suffering from a lack of jobs. There are always kind people and always exciting events to attend for free.

The University of Brighton is a great place to study; in the heart of the city, you're only ever a stones throw away from the beach or the iconic Lanes. All the staff are incredibly supportive and there's little doubt they want you to achieve your full potential. The only downside of my time at the University of Brighton was that much of my time was marred by strikes. Whilst I 100% back and support all striking workers, it was clear that University management had very little care for staff and students. Especially if you're a humanities subject.

The public transport is really good, the campus is close to so many local amenities. I'm on Moulsecoomb campus and the issue that I have with it, is that it's too drab and grey. What would improve it for me is having a campus with more colour to it.
