Overview
Engineering is the pursuit of solutions – finding the answers to complex global problems through innovation, imagination and ingenuity. Engineers create, apply, design and manufacture and play a significant role in shaping the future of society. At UEA we foster versatility in engineering through a philosophical approach to your academic development. You won’t just work within the traditional boundaries of engineering; you will be encouraged to explore a range of disciplines and develop a systems approach to problem solving.
About This Course
This degree includes a foundation year that will enhance your academic skills and provide the knowledge base you need to progress onto your course with confidence. The foundation year fills any learning experience gaps you might have and will prepare you for life as an engineering undergraduate here at UEA. Each of our undergrad engineering courses follows an integrated programme structure for the first year. This is designed to provide you with a broad insight into the incredible potential of Engineering as a discipline. In your second year, you can tailor your course to your interests, keeping the broad-based approach or join another programme for your remaining years of study – focusing more closely on Mechanical, Electronic and Electrical engineering. You’ll have access to resources from UEA Schools like Environmental Sciences, Computing Sciences and Mathematics, so that your learning is limitless. The addition of a foundation year provides a solid grounding on which to build your career in engineering. BEng will develop your capacity to answer society’s biggest questions and provide you with the tools for integrated learning. As well as focusing on the mathematical and scientific underpinning that you’ll require to support your engineering studies, your foundation year will present opportunities to support your wider study-skill development. In this way, you’ll gain the confidence you need to complete the year successfully and progress through your Engineering degree. Depending on the course you choose to progress onto after your Foundation Year, we also offer a BEng Engineering with a Year in Industry degree if you’re interested in spending a year in an industrial placement.
