Overview

Our Endodontology MClinDent combines academic study, clinical skills training and research. You will study a range of subjects including the pathology of apical periodontitis and strategies to manage it effectively. We will develop your understanding and analysis of the research bases for clinical care and provide you with opportunities to interact with other graduate students specialising in prosthodontics and periodontology.

Course detail

The main themes which you will study are: The scientific basis of endodontology. Diagnosis and treatment planning for patients with advanced endodontic problems and clinical treatment of patients with endodontic and other restorative problems. Research methodology to enable you to undertake a research project. You will interact productively with fellow graduate students who are specialising in prosthodontics and periodontology. The course is designed for qualified dentists wanting to extend their knowledge and clinical practice in endodontology. The course has formal recognition for UK specialist training. We provide extensive contemporary knowledge in endodontology, enabling students to attain clinical proficiency in endodontics to recognised specialist level, to relate endodontic care to other aspects of restorative dentistry, and to learn research methodology. You will achieve clinical proficiency in endodontics to a recognised UK specialist level and have the opportunity to sit for the membership examination with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. This course is available to study full-time over three years or over four years. The course content is identical across both periods. Candidates should apply for either the four-year (3 days per week) programme or the three-year (5 days per week) programme. Both lengths are classified as full-time programmes. Teaching and assessment

We will use a delivery method that will ensure students have a rich, exciting experience from the start. Face to face teaching will be complemented and supported with innovative technology so that students also experience elements of digital learning and assessment. Your three academic taught modules will be assessed by written exams. Your five clinical modules will be examined on cases and open problems with oral exams, and you will have one research module, for which you will submit a report, with an oral exam.

Career prospects

By the end of our programme, which is formally recognised as part of UK specialist training, you will be a highly knowledgeable professional in endodontics at master's level, and proficient and skilful in related areas of restorative dentistry.
