Criminology and Sociology with Foundation Year - BA (Hons)

Sheffield Hallam University

Hallam is a great place to study as they offer a variety of courses and have many facilities and buildings for your education. An improvement could be regarding the timetable as some lessons have a large gap in between them, which may result in students leaving early in the day and not attending the second lesson.

Best aspects of my Uni experience is that I get the opportunity to live away from home and experience adult life first hand. It offers me good insight into what the future holds. Howere, this is the best and worst, because it can get stressful and lonely at points. But support is always the best resource.

It’s very modern, has may study spaces available. Staff are great to talk to about worries etc. They settle you in well for first year. A bit daunting to join societies.

Sheffield Hallam University offers a welcoming and supportive environment with a strong focus on applied learning. The teaching staff are approachable, knowledgeable, and committed to helping students develop both academically and professionally. The university’s facilities, including modern study spaces, libraries, and specialist resources, create a positive setting for independent and collaborative work. Sheffield Hallam is also well connected to local communities and employers, providing valuable opportunities for placements, volunteering, and real-world experience. The Students’ Union is active and inclusive, offering a wide range of societies and support services that help students settle in and feel part of the community. The city of Sheffield itself is friendly, affordable, and vibrant, with plenty of green spaces and cultural activities. Overall, Sheffield Hallam provides a balanced blend of academic support, practical experience, and an enjoyable student life, making it a strong choice for many learners. I think the one thing that could be improved in my courses attendance taking. I would prefer if all my lectures took attendance so I could keep track of it myself.

Lecturers are helpful. Lots of career help while studying Staff shortages and redundancies are felt by everyone quite heavily
