If you're fascinated by the logical beauty of mathematics and the practical capabilities of computing, our Computer Science and Mathematics programme explores their intrinsic connection in tackling real-world challenges. With industry placements and specialist modules focused on professional skills development and employability, you'll graduate equipped with the theoretical knowledge, professional insights, and practical abilities to tackle a range of challenges across various sectors.

Course overview

As many real-world computational problems are interdisciplinary in nature and solving them requires skills and techniques from both computer science and mathematics, there is high demand for graduates with the theoretical foundations, professional understanding and practical skills required to create the systems of the future.

Computer Science and Mathematics at Keele will support you in learning a variety of techniques and skills from these closely connected disciplines, allowing you to solve a diverse range of scientific and technical problems across various sectors.

Work placement year

In an increasingly competitive job market, employers are seeking to recruit employees who have high-level knowledge, skills and an understanding of the workplace. In between year two and three of your studies, there is the opportunity to undertake a placement, gaining valuable practical experience with a computer science-focused company or organisation. This will enable you to apply the skills and theories you have learnt to real situations in the industrial workplace and enhance your employability.

Foundation year

Our Foundation Year provides an excellent alternative route to Keele, providing a unique opportunity to better prepare for your chosen degree, and with guaranteed entry onto your undergraduate course once you successfully complete your Foundation Year.

This extra year of study can improve your academic skills, expand your subject knowledge, give you a better understanding of higher education and, perhaps most importantly of all, build your confidence.

Your future career

95% of Keele students are in employment or further study within 15 months of finishing their studies (HESA Graduate Outcomes, 2019/20)

Thanks to the growing importance placed on technology and big data, opportunities for graduates with computing and mathematical skills continues to expand. From problem-solving and critical thinking to modelling and interpreting data, you will gain extremely transferable skills, relevant to a wide range of industries.

A great campus with a nice atmosphere. It's a little far from Newcastle Under-Lyme so food shopping can be a bit of a chore. Accomodation is nice, although like with all..Read more
