Overall, my experience at the University of Strathclyde has been both challenging and highly rewarding, and it has played a significant role in shaping me academically, professionally, and personally. One of the best aspects of my time at Strathclyde has been the strength of the research environment and the support available to develop as an independent scientist. In particular, the guidance I have received from my PI has been instrumental in my development. Through regular meetings, constructive feedback, and consistent encouragement, my PI has helped me build confidence in my abilities and strengthen my scientific thinking. They have supported me in planning experiments strategically, interpreting data critically, and improving how I communicate my research, both in writing and in presentations. This mentorship has not only helped me progress academically, but has also reduced feelings of imposter syndrome and enabled me to approach new challenges with more independence and professionalism. Having a PI who is supportive while also maintaining high expectations has been a major positive influence on my overall university experience. I have also valued the broader opportunities Strathclyde provides for professional development, such as training courses and events that strengthen transferable skills, expand technical knowledge, and encourage networking. These opportunities have helped me feel more prepared for a career beyond my degree and have reinforced the university’s commitment to student growth. However, there have also been more difficult aspects of my experience. At times, the workload and expectations can feel overwhelming, particularly when balancing research responsibilities alongside strict reporting deadlines and professional development requirements. The intensity of postgraduate study is expected, but it can still be demanding and emotionally draining, especially during periods where experiments are not progressing as planned or when multiple deadlines overlap. Another challenge has been that support systems can occasionally feel unclear or inconsistent, especially when navigating administrative processes or seeking wellbeing support. Communication between services could also be more streamlined, as delays or unclear guidance can create unnecessary stress for students. There are several areas where Strathclyde could improve the overall student experience. Clearer signposting of wellbeing services, more consistent guidance around administrative procedures, and more structured check-ins during high-pressure periods would be particularly beneficial. In addition, continuing to strengthen student community, especially for postgraduate researchers, could help reduce isolation and improve wellbeing across research groups. Despite the challenges, I am grateful for the growth and opportunities I have gained at Strathclyde, and I believe the university has a strong foundation that could be enhanced even further through improved communication, clearer support structures, and a stronger student-centred approach.

High quality education. Needs more budget for renovations though. Nice place with kind people overall - can provide good services and support.

The location is very convenient near all the major parts of central Glasgow and also with good links to other parts. Myplace is very helpful and useful to find the work quickly

Student support and staff have always been extremely helpful with any issues. Lecturers have always been enthusiastic and passionate about teaching. Facilities such as lecture halls and labs could be improved and modernised slightly.

It is in an ideal location, there are many extracurricular activities available to students - some are very creative. I think the union is good but there are not enough places to sit especially during lunch time
