I feel like the lecturers do their best to support students. I think that the business building is nice but could have some more space for just business students to study. I like the cafes and food spots over university and the fact it’s close to town. I think as I am on placement there could be a bit more support and explanation about the assessments but it is nice they have a placement returner day.

Visually is appealing and the social areas are varied with lots of options. The lecturers are happy to help and are understanding. Lots of societies to choose from. Some lecture halls are notably old and broken in some places that need reworking. The attendance system since its update is unreliable.

Incredibly supportive academics and support services available. The mental health support is great and personal tutors are lovely. It has a beautiful campus.

The best part of my uni experience has been the international environment, meeting people from different cultures and learning from professors who genuinely support students. The worst aspect is that some administrative processes can be slow or unclear, so improving communication and support services would make the experience even better.

Best aspects of my experience at the University of Surrey One of the strongest parts of studying at Surrey is the university’s clear focus on employability. The Professional Training Year is a major advantage, and it genuinely helps students feel more prepared for the workplace. The careers team runs regular workshops, fairs, and one-to-one sessions that make it easier to explore career options and gain confidence. The campus environment is another highlight. The facilities are modern, clean and generally well organised, and it’s helpful having everything within walking distance. The Library & Learning Centre is especially good, offering a variety of study spaces for different learning styles. Surrey Sports Park is also a fantastic facility and adds a lot to the overall student experience, whether you’re into competitive sports or just want to stay active. Social life at Surrey is strong too. Societies, clubs and events make it easy to meet people and feel part of a community. Campus generally feels safe and friendly, and there’s a good balance between academic support and opportunities to take part in student-led activities. The location is another big benefit — Guildford is a pleasant student town, and the easy access to London opens up even more opportunities for internships, cultural events and networking. Worst aspects and areas for improvement One of the biggest downsides is the cost of living. Student accommodation, both on and off campus, can be quite expensive, and sometimes the price doesn’t reflect the quality of the rooms or facilities. Offering more affordable housing options would significantly improve the student experience. Communication from some departments can occasionally be inconsistent, especially regarding timetable changes, assessments or administrative updates. During busy times of the year, it can also take longer than expected to get responses or support. Another area that could be improved is the availability of study space during peak periods. The library and other popular study areas become very crowded around exam season, and it can be difficult to find a quiet place to work. Expanding study areas or extending opening hours during the busiest times would help. Finally, while the campus environment is generally positive, some students feel that certain facilities or services could be updated or maintained more regularly to match the high quality of newer buildings.
