One of the best aspects of my university experience at Cardiff University has been the overall sense of community. The university has a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, and it’s easy to feel part of something bigger than just your course. The Students’ Union plays a big role in this, offering a wide range of societies, sports clubs and events that make it easy to meet new people and try new things. This has really helped me build friendships and develop confidence outside of my academic work. Academically, I’ve appreciated the expertise and enthusiasm of many of the lecturers. When teaching is engaging and well-structured, it makes a huge difference to motivation and understanding. I’ve also found that most staff are approachable and willing to offer support during office hours or via email. The library and study spaces are another strong point – they are modern, well-equipped and provide a good environment for both independent and group study. Cardiff as a city also adds to the experience. It’s compact, relatively affordable compared to other UK cities, and everything is within walking distance, which makes student life more convenient and enjoyable. However, there are also areas that could be improved. At times, communication can feel inconsistent, particularly around assessment details, deadlines or timetable changes. Clearer and more centralised communication across modules would reduce confusion and unnecessary stress. Small improvements in organisation can have a big impact on the overall student experience. Another challenge has been access to facilities during busy periods. Study spaces in the library can become very crowded during exam season, making it difficult to find quiet areas to work. Extending opening hours further during peak times or increasing available quiet study areas would help support students during high-pressure periods. Overall, my experience at Cardiff University has been positive, with strong teaching, a vibrant student community and a great city to live in. With improved communication and better management of study spaces during busy times, the experience could be even better.

Amazing array of study areas and facilities, however some lecturers sometimes don’t make lectures engaging enough and remain monotone throughout the full 2 hours which makes it hard to concentrate

Best is the social side and facilities. Amazing SU and nightlife. The worst in my opinion is the exam style in terms of too many available marks in a limited time. For example I have an upcoming exam worth 100 marks with only 1 hour to complete it.

Choosing Cardiff University has been the best decision I've made! From the student union to the course I'm studying and the support services available, it is one of the best. The student life here at Cardiff is top notch, the Student Union has one of the best clubs in Cardiff and is always the best place to be on a Wednesday and sometimes even a Friday or Saturday. The university is only a short walk to the city centre which is so nice and easy. In addition, the proximity to Bute Park and Pontcanna Fields is great if you want a breath of fresh air in the city's parks. The sport here at Cardiff is amazing with a plethora of sports competing in BUCS from the mainstream sports like Rugby, Netball, Cricket to not so popular sports like Kayaking, Sailing and Darts. But if BUCS isn't your thing then Cardiff also has IMG (Intramural Games) available to students. This is a more chilled out, social competition with Football, Rugby and Netball being played on a Wednesday afternoon where you can meet a great group of friends.
