Nottingham is a beautiful campus, laid out well to optimise freedom of space. The Student Union always has events on to get students engaged and enjoying themselves, as well as campus RAs who are also a wonderful part of first year life due to the constant support they give. The David Ross Sports Centre is definitely a key hub of activity also it might be nice to have more separation in the gym between the weighs and racks and the active/cardio machines.

All lecturers and tutors I have encountered have been excellent, both in knowledge of their subject and passion for those they teach. As far as the education goes I believe things are good however it might be nicer to have a wider selection of module choice in the first year. As far as career and work placements go, I have yet to use these facilities so an unaware as to what is available to me.

The best hall on campus. More like a house than a hall, the layout and location makes it feel so cosy and tight-knit between students. I am always impressed by the present of security looking after us, particularly in the evenings when I know they have to deal with a lot. I feel very safe in the hall and also confident in the management to deal with issues appropriately. The wifi is generally fine, and when it works it is up to standard, however it does tend to drop off from time to time and this can be very problematic when trying to work.

Nottingham is a great place to study because of its facilities and the campus. Everything is very modern and up to date. The campus is well maintained and has lots of green space and different places to hang out and go for coffee and lunch. It is a very social university with a big focus on sports and societies. I really enjoyed living in catered accommodation on campus in my first year - I met some of my closest friends there and I still live with them. Living on campus in first year allows you to immerse yourself in the university experience. There are also non-catered accommodation options off-campus if this is what you would prefer. One of the worst aspects of the university experience was how we were cared for during the COVID pandemic. I feel like as students living on campus, we were not very well looked after. We were expected to stay within our rooms if we had to isolate with no chance to exercise and communication was often very limited and poor. Sometimes we were not fed or fed the wrong food (i.e. a vegetarian was given meat). I also feel like financial support throughout the COVID pandemic from the university has been poor - I heard of other universities supporting students with loans or grants but this did not happen at the university. Loans were always means-tested or application-based. The university has also not done a lot to mitigate the impact of strikes on students. I feel like we have pulled the short straw in this situation and that the university could do more to support students and staff alike. Otherwise, I have had a brilliant time at Nottingham and would recommend it to anyone thinking of coming here.

My course is taught fully in person. There are about 9 contact hours in third year which is good. Sometimes the expectation for reading can be quite heavy but otherwise the workload is manageable. It is assessed via coursework for politics and by exam for economics. I have chosen to drop philosophy in my third year because I didn't really like the content. There are so many options for modules but sometimes I have felt like the progression is sometimes forgotten about for combined honours students as in economics there is some material that you are expected to know from a second year module which I might not have taken. I think there could be a little more guidance for combined honours students about progression. it can be quite hard to make friends when being a combined honours students since you are constantly changing schools and modules but I have managed to fit this into my working style and it works well for me.

Cripps was quite expensive - and I think it has gone up a lot in price since I stayed there. You get breakfast and dinner on the weekdays and brunch and dinner on the weekends which was great. they also give you £25 a week to spend in campus food and drinks facilities - I would use this to buy my lunch in the Portland building. A lot of the hall facilities were closed during my first year because of COVID but when they were open they were lots of fun. For example you could play pool or darts in the bar. you can also buy drinks and food here when it is open. There is also a common room where you can hang out or play table tennis. Cripps has a lot of open space and grass which is nice and a good place to hang out in the summer. I think Cripps is the largest hall on campus so you can always meet people that you get along with or new people. The building itself is great and very welcoming. There is a welcome desk which is open most days where you can collect your parcels or report maintenance problems. I loved my time in Cripps!
