At first, I was incredibly nervous about studying at university: I came from a small town in the countryside and moving to the city was a big shock to my system. I started out being incredibly shy and reserved, never having lived away from home before. However, after a semester and a half here, I can see a real positive change to my confidence: the university's facilities are impeccable, with constant support from tutors and lecturers, so you don't ever need to worry about anything as there's always someone close by to help. I've made tonnes of friends via the Union (I really recommend the TableTop RolePlayingGame - TTRPG club!) Overall, I would really recommend this university to anyone, as even in the midst of a cost of living crisis, university life is not as intimidating or frightening at Manchester Metropolitan University. The only improvements I could ask for is some more accommodation, as student houses in Manchester right now are either too far away or too expensive, but that really is my only qualm.

I am currently a first-year single-honours Philosophy (BA Hons) student. My passion for this course started at A-Level when I was doing Religious Studies. Overall, this course is very well-rounded, engaging and thought-provoking. The first-semester courses are titled Questioning Humanity, Classical Philosophy, Death God and the Meaning of Life, and Theoretical Ethics. These courses assuredly hurt your brain in the best way possible. The only troubles I have is with the interdisciplinary course Questioning Humanity - although the course combines areas of Philosophy, History, and Politics, and focuses on the real-world current issues of the Earth's climate, I feel as if the course lacks in Philosophy-based content, with some lectures leaving me feeling slightly less engaged. The other three first-semester courses do promise exciting insights into notable philosophers, such as Kant, Descartes and Plato.

Rosamond House is a great choice of university halls, for both returning and first-time students! It is a three-minute walk to the campus, and the on-site maintenance and security team are very reliable. The internet occasionally dips out but it's rather fast the rest of the time. Room allocation can be rather tight, but that is mainly because Manchester does have a problem with student accommodation at the moment, with houses for students being either really far away or very expensive. Rosamond House is great value for money and the rooms are very decent - a few specks of damage here and there, but otherwise really comfortable and cosy.

the best experience is the freedom to do what you want when you want with who you want. the worst experience is first year halls when you're living with 9 others....

the best aspects are how you can choose topics that interest you and that most of the lecturers really have a desire to help you understand. the worst part is the way university teaching is layed out so that only one or two lessons per semester are actually relevant to the coursework you choose to do.

the kitchen was very modern and spacious. the little green area outside is nice too. however sharing with 9 others with only 2 bathrooms is overwhelming.
