I have recently started my first year here. I chose to come to Edge Hill over anywhere else due to its Manchester central location with great transport links nearby, as well as I felt it would be the best choice to get some really good experience. So far, the lecturers have been really helpful, nice, and approachable. The facilities are nice, the building is nice in Manchester. The cohorts are quite big but this is split up where needed for practical stuff so you don’t feel like those aspects are compromised. The amount of times we are asked to give feedback is amazing. I’ve never studied somewhere that asks for so much feedback. The best bit is that they actually come and talk to us about the feedback after they have begun to implement it too. A lot of the time, feedback gets given and nothing seems to come of it at some places. This is different and the cohort lead really has impressed me with this. The St James’ Campus is right across the street from a major train station so people come from all over to university. The balance of online lectures and in person lectures I feel is nicely blended. Assignment feedback that is given is brief, but informative and is followed with the option to have a discussion around the feedback. I have found the student support in terms of services is not massively visible, but we are made aware of who to contact and the website has many links to helpful pages and to contacts if needs be. This campus is in a building, and basically is one floor of a building which has other companies in. Therefore, you find that the foyer downstairs is very busy at peak times. This is beyond their control. The simulation room and the clinical skills labs are well equipped and are looked after by a really friendly and chatty guy who supports our learning. I work on weekends and i’m not the youngest guest student so I don’t get really involved with social aspects of university so I can’t really comment on those. I know they sometimes do pub crawls and other similar things. Recently, the uni organised some time for us to interact with therapy animals which was a really valuable and enjoyable time. I would recommend that they do more of those. Again. the student union is something I am aware of but haven’t had the chance to interact with.

The blended learning is good, it makes a difference to have some of the more mundane but necessary content to be taught online. It makes it more palatable and some work is “set” for us to do when we have time. One of our lectures allows us to work extra on days when we are off uni and then do the work another time. So it can be flexible. The placements are great. They’re with the local ambulance service and they make you feel really welcome. It can be daunting but we all have a couple of inductions so it really helps to settle nerves. The placements allow everyone to see what the job is really like and allows us to be able to reflect on what we study and how that is put into practice in the real world. The lecturers are all so intelligent, friendly and approachable. We really have the best lecturers. Some of the teaching has anecdotal elements which I love and can relate to a lot of them and this helps me learn. Some people have expressed that they do not find these helpful. It’s individual but I like them. Careers are tough at the moment in the health service. This is not a reflection on the university. It’s just how it is right now. There’s some uncertainty on how this will be after our last year. We have had advice on how to stand out but I’m sure this will be covered more at a later date. Our personal tutors do reach out to us frequently. However, at this point I have not felt the need to meet 1-2-1. We see them around all the time on the campus though so it wouldn’t be difficult to engage with them if needed.
