University of Bristol provides places (eg. hackspace and labs) that are open for engineering students to create their own individual projects. This allows the creativity of the students to be cultivated which creates a deep passion on the course they chose to study. The support from our lecturers has been fantastic! As I a course representative, I understood that the faculty takes into consideration the suggestions of the students and tries to address all the problems that arise. However, during exam season, I found out that the established study spaces and libraries are not enough to accomodate all the students. Some days during exam season, I was wondering from one study space to the other in the hop that I will find a free desk. Hence, I believe that more study spaces and libraries should be available for students. Furthermore, most of our lecturers come from an academic background (Phd). I understand that the people chosen to teach are some of the brightest people and have contributed much to the research of the university. However, I think that some of them are not as strong in teaching and explaining engineering concepts to students. Furhtermore, I would like to see more lecturers coming from an industrial background rather that the academic background. This is because as students, we could learn and benefit by seeing the different sectors of engineering and how they are applied to what we are learning at the university.

Due to coronavirus, the course content is split into asynchronous material and synchronous material. Asynchronous material is comprised of small videos of the content that is being published before the lecture for the students to watch and write notes on. Synchronous material is comprised by students sitting in a lecture theatre and engaging with the lecturers on the content that they learn form the asynchronous material (eg. solving examples and asking questions). I am a fan of this method since through the asynchronous content, students are able to comprehend the material better as they can pause, and replay the videos. This enables the students to go in the lecture and engage more with the lecturer to gain a deeper understanding of the content. I understand that engineering is a challenging course that requires many contact hours as well as individual studying. However, sometimes I feel like the contact hours are way too many that I do not have time to study the things I want to. Furthermore, since we do not have seminars and we are not able to strike a conversation with our lectures, I feel distant from our lecturers and not as comfortable asking questions in lectures, I understand that due to the number of people in our course, it is difficult for the lecturers to know our names or bond with us in a certain way, but I would like to see a stronger relationship between the students and the lecturers.
