For me, sports has always been an important aspect of my life. Heriot-Watt Sports Union is honestly incredible. To offer a wide variety of sports for the size of the uni and the community and the sense of belonging I have felt here at uni because of it is almost indescribable. Being a part of a smaller cohort of language students has really benefitted my university experience. Not only have I had ample opportunities to bond with my fellow casemates, but there is a real connection with tutors and professors. There are benefits and negatives to having a campus university. One downside is that it is quite far from the city centre, a place where most students live after their 1st year of undergraduate study and if you do get involved in societies, sports clubs or simply a long study day it can take a while to get home (especially during 5 pm rush hour). That being said, there is so much to do on campus and many places to go for a "change of scenery". The Student Union has great food and offers lots of activities during the week, many after classes finish. The Sports Union offers lots of recreational activities for those who are trying something for the first time or playing competitively in a sport. There is something so special about a campus uni - everything is in the same space, and you don't have to rush from one side of town to the other to get to a class.

All of our classes are taught in-class which does definitely help, given the nature of the course. Most weeks focuses on a different type of written content and different themes which definitely broadens the scope of what we work with. Having this time in class allows for a lot of discussion and debate which can definitely require a lot of time given the subjective nature of translation. Other course include key skills development and working with different technology to assist with translation - something that doesn't get taught in high school or undergraduate level here. What is special about this degree (together with the interpreting degree at Heriot-Watt) is that many of our professors/tutors have been or still are professionals in these two remits, so as a student, you are learning real-life hints and tips that will aid us when we enter the professional world.

The campus facilities are great and the teachers are really supportive and kind. It could be handier to have a bus that goes directly to the campus from the airport and the other way around

My accomodation is great and really quite, which I truly appreciate. However, it wasn't the case when I first arrived, I was in another hall and people where really noisy everyday. They were partying all night long and disrespectful. I know it is still the case because of some of my friends that are still living there. It might sound old fashion, but I think it could be better if security was checking the halls more often, especially at night during the week.
