The University of Exeter is known for its beautiful campuses, strong academic reputation, and vibrant student life. Exeter consistently ranks highly in UK university league tables and is part of the prestigious Russell Group. Exeter is a relatively small city, which gives the university a close-knit community vibe. Students often comment on the friendly atmosphere both on and off-campus. With over 250 societies and sports clubs, students can easily find activities that suit their interests. Exeter can be quite expensive compared to other UK cities, especially in terms of accommodation. Exeter’s nightlife is more subdued compared to larger cities like Manchester or Birmingham. While there are pubs, bars, and a few clubs, some students feel the options are limited.

The Data Science program at the University of Exeter has some notable strengths and a few challenges. The program blends mathematics, computer science, and applied data science, providing a strong foundation in machine learning, AI, and statistical modelling. Many students appreciate the accessible IT and library facilities, with 90% reporting that subject-specific resources like software and datasets are readily available when needed. The course requires mastering a wide range of technical skills, including programming, statistical modeling, and ethical considerations in data science. While the option to pursue an industrial placement year is available, accessing and securing placements can be competitive.

Most halls are located within walking distance of classes, libraries, and the city center, making them very convenient for daily life. University-managed halls provide numerous opportunities for socialising through shared kitchens, common areas, and events organised by the Resident Life team, such as baking sessions and movie nights​. Some halls, such as Holland Hall, are known for being significantly more expensive, which has led to perceptions of class differences between residents of different halls. In some less expensive halls, like Lafrowda, students report noise and overcrowded facilities during busy times.

I think it would be great if there were more areas (not quite working areas) to study where you can speak. At present on Streatham I use the Forum and at St Luke’s at the moment I just use above the canteen. I think the library building is closed.

Great teaching, however at times it is quite full on very fast, may be at the start of the course more covering basics may ease students in.
