University rating
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
I think that the university has a huge variety of facilities available to the students and caters for the range of learning methods and student requirements. For example, the library includes a quiet working area for students doing assignments for example, and there is also another area where students can discuss books and other forms of work.
The Stannery also not only functions as a canteen, but also as a venue for students event that are regularly held every week. This allows students to socialize and de-stress about assignments and other set work. Furthermore, the on-site café, Koofi, provides drinks, freshly made pizzas and soup for students to purchase. The relaxing atmosphere of the café also makes it a great place to meet with friends and have a chat with some cake!
Lastly, the university staff are all very welcoming and are always willing to help you when a problem occurs.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
I think that the uni facilities meet all the student expectations and cater for the different learning methods.
As I have said previously, the library is a great place for students to do quiet work and to socialize with friends. The on-site café is also a great place to relax and enjoy some cake! and the Stannery is equally good as a canteen and event venue. The lecture and seminar rooms are also spacious and allow you to concentrate and enjoy a presentation.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
I think that the student support is ok, I have been informed about ASK who can help you with assignments by reading through them and highlighting any spelling/grammatical errors. Although I am reluctant to book a session with them because even though they can help with it grammatically, they don't know a lot about the course, which means that they can help you with the main content of the assignment.
However, I do have regular tutorials with my lecturers which I find helpful because I am able to discuss any problems and ask questions.
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
I think that the Student Union work hard to meet and excel the student expectations and needs. They are always willing to listen to your opinions about different aspects of the university and do everything they can to make a difference to the university.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
The Falmouth town is great because you can catch a bus/drive/walk there between lectures/seminars to grab some lunch at some of the great cafes. My favourites are Dolly's and De Whynns. New Look is also a great place to purchase clothes to stay on trend and the clubs are always a brilliant venue to choose for a fun night out!
The Maritime Museum is also a great place to explore and learn more about Falmouth, and the various art galleries are lovely to look around and especially good for art students.
The buses also run regularly which is very useful and the taxis are available and on time too.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
There is a wide range of clubs and societies that you can get involved in. I am currently in the High Tea Society, and on the committee. I am really enjoying this society, I have met lots of people with the same interests as me and it is helping me with the course that I am studying which is BA Hons Creative Events Management because as a committee we need to think of and run lots of new events, which I find really fun! We have recently done a very successful café crawl around Falmouth.
I am also in the Horse Riding Society which I am really enjoying. I have been on some really fun hacks and am looking forward to the beach ride next month!
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
I think that the university offers an extensive variety of courses for students who are interested in the creative side of education. The lecturers are all very enthusiastic about the courses that they teach and always ensure that each module is interesting and that students fully understand it. You can also book tutorials with them which allows you to discuss any queries of questions about the course or other matters outside of the course.
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
Focussing on the course that I am studying which is BA Hons Creative Events Management, it has really helped prepare for working in the events industry.
From being involved in work placements especially, it has given me an insight into working within different industries and educating me about how they are run. They are also helping me to decide what industry I would like to work in, in the future.
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
I don't know a lot about the university accommodation because I live at home, but a lot of my course mates have said that they really enjoyed living on campus compared to living in town. The reason for this is because it was easier for them to attend lectures and seminars on time, and they were able to drink at Stannery events because they didn't need to drive home.
So all in all, the campus accommodation is a success!
