With the SMT once again announcing a detrimental restructure to the university, roughly around 300 teaching staff are being threatened with redundancies if they are viewed as not making a 'valuable' contribution to Goldsmiths. A vast majority of departments have been threatened with teaching and module cuts, including English, once again. It is ironic that they are saying they want to make back/ save around 20 million, yet they are looking to have an AI centre whilst neglecting the humanities departments that reside at the very heart of Goldsmiths. They do not have much care for practising free speech on campus as the SMT wanted to 'arrest' the group of us that had 1.) occupied a building on campus in protest against the way the university has conducted their weak response to the ongoing genocide in Palestine and 2.) those that actually took part in the protests that occurred on campus. How can you label your university as a 'creative powerhouse' and a 'melting pot' of ideas when you've conducted yourself in such a backward manner? The welfare team has little regard for you. I had applied for a hardship bursary, yet I was met with a foodbank voucher that could only be used on the week it was issued and for a place that was miles away from accom and only open for 4 hours on a Friday. Do not come to this uni if you are seeking a place that values academic integrity and the preservation of your course; alongside your welfare as a student. It's a shock that they can even call themselves an institution.

Although this department are once again being attacked with this stupid Transformation Program, the modules that we have had for first year have generally been interesting selection. The core modules encourage you to access different branches of thought that generally aren't taught at A Level and they offer a variety of texts from the literature cannon all the way up to the most contemporary works. It has been pleasant to access literature outside of the Western cannon and explore a variety of BAME texts. I do recommend for a liberal selection of texts! Professors on each module are lovey all round and encourage plenty of discussions within seminar hours. Lectures are often insightful and thought-provoking, you leave the lectures with plenty to discuss and consider! Essays are not always manageable with regard to the way they are staggered, so I will say that the course has been quite demanding in terms of essay content and the different readings expected per week, per module.

Surrey House is only a blessed 5 min walk from campus and the facilities are good. Has a close proximity to both NC and NXG train stations, meaning that getting to central doesn't take long. Good surrounding of pubs for freshers week and is near two sainsbury's and now a b&m. Staff on reception desk are lovely!

This is a fab arts institution, with a very quirky and hipster student community. As it's within south east London, going to buy food around lunch and nipping to the corner store to get snacks would not come with a worry of having to see extortionate prices! It's also a university with a modern library, new enough computer facilities and study areas where students from external uni's also come and visit to study as well.

There are not as many fun activities here, but very politically active, and student lounge area is really relaxed and cool

Courses are very interesting and lectures are also quite inspirational in the way they carry out the lectures

Goldsmiths is always recognised as a good institution and also provides Employability scheme programmes to help with preparing for reflective writing and preparing for the working world.
