I study Acting For Stage & Screen at Performance Preparation Academy in Guildford which is funded and run by De Montfort University. The uni is such an amazing space and atmosphere. It is wonderfully inclusive allow people with different backgrounds, genders, religions. ect to join. It’s a small university compared to others which make it feel like a big family where everyone knows everyone. The teachers are freelance acting teachers who have a wide range of experience and knowledge of the industry, which is perfect because it means where learning from people who’ve been in our shoes and share our goals of becoming an actor in the industry. The contact hours are amazing from 8:30am till 5:00 pm every weekday means you have a lot of opportunity to learn and grow quicker than from lectures and only going to uni a few hours a week. The downside to this is that there isn’t much time outside of college or on the weekends to unwind as most people work on the weekend as well which makes it incredibly demanding and means you might not earn as much as other students who aren’t as full time as drama universities. The support from both De Montfort and the team around the Drama School is incredible too. And being in Guildford (which is only a 30-45 min train ride to London) gives best of both worlds of not being a busy city like London whilst also giving easy access to the West End and National Theatre shows which is perfect for any aspiring actor. To summarise I wouldn’t change Performance Preparation Academy for anything else regarding support, training and knowledge, location and experience.

The course is amazing regarding teachers and tutors coming from the acting background with the vast range of knowledge they all have. The contact hours are perfect because it’s full time from 8:30am till 5:00pm most to every weekday. And the content is impeccable being one of the only one if not the only drama school to have a dedicated weekly class for stage combat, which is being used more and more within the acting industry.
