How will your estate agent or auctioneer career progress?

Generally, career progression comes from gaining experience and taking on more clients and responsibilities. As your performance and results improve, your career will progress.

You may begin your career at a high street estate agency, as an entry-level estate agent. After a few years, you could progress to a senior sales negotiator position or branch manager.

Self-employment is also possible as an estate agent and property auctioneer. Once you have enough experience and a good contact base, you could set up your own agency or become a freelance operator.

What opportunities are there for career development?

Most of your learning and professional development will come from experience on the job. You’ll pick up new skills and areas of expertise as your career develops.

Training can also be offered both in-house and through external companies, covering the most important areas of the role.

The National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) is the UK’s leading professional body for estate agents. You could also join the National Association of Valuers and Auctioneers (NAVA).
