The annual Whatuni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs) highlight the incredible work carried out by institutions for their students. Due to Covid restrictions, this year’s awards were not collected on uni campuses as usual, but instead based on submissions from institutions, which were then judged by our special student panel.

I think my experience would have been better if we were able to attend on campus but that is not the uni's fault. I think they have attempted a lot in hopes to make the experience as fun as possible but I understand that this is very difficult to do.
One of the lecturers for my concept art class has begun to invite guest speakers to the discord to talk about their jobs in the industry which has been quite fun to listen to.
Luckily I would say my course is quite suited to being taught online. I would much prefer to attend classes at the university but I think compared to other courses, we are relatively well off. My lecturers were all very helpful and engaging and made sure to check up on us outside of 'class times'. My classes were fully online but I believe we were given a 3 hour slot each week to go into the un to ask questions if need be. Unfortunately, I ended up staying at home as I felt I was paying too much money on rent when I didn't need to.
I put 3 stars as I'm not sure. I visited the university once but we weren't exactly allowed to explore.
I'm fortunate enough to say that I don't really suffer from any mental health or disabilities so I'm not really aware of the help and services the uni offers
Very hard to attend lectures and learn but also had not bad support but online learning so hard I cannot listen to any lectures or seminars and most of our lecture recordings were available for 30 days which I found out about at the end of the year so couldn’t re watch classes and resulted to my own learning and YouTube so 9k for YouTube
Haven’t been to uni this year
We had quite a lot of contact hours called ( virtual contact hours) for each module. 1 to 1 or group calls.
The pandemic has been hard for everyone, and I don’t doubt that includes the university. The head of course has tried his hardest to make our experience good, but being in a pandemic it just wasn’t really possible. We’ve been fortunate to have some IRL lessons remaining, as well as the library being open. But overall it’s just been rather underwhelming.
Lots of placements, as per government requirement.
Some of the lecturers are amazing, and go above and beyond. Others turn up and teach the pre made material and that’s about it. It really is a luck of the draw. We had quite a fortunate mix of online and IRL learning. As soon as IRL learning was viable though the uni didn’t upload livestreams anymore.
Would be helpful if there were more computers in the library/ SIZ in peak seasons, but otherwise the facilities are great. Library opening hours are more limited than desirable though - I’m a night owl. Everything is clean and sanitary, books/ children’s resources available are amazing.
Little to no care or empathy. Limited to no support available. If you have mental health issues and require support more than a 15 minute drop in session to rant once a week, this is not the uni for you.
Overall, the university experience is not what I expected due to Covid 19, however I have learnt how to be independent, manage my money, etc along with getting a valuable degree
Very good, I receive so many emails regarding upcoming jobs and internships
Due to the Covid-19 it’s difficult to experience the course the way I had hoped, however it is still interesting and a lot of drop in session to help
The facilities are all up to date and new, with big lecture halls and spacious common areas
Very good! I receive various emails about the help that is offered and feel comfortable talking to support staff
Everything for my course has been online so not the practical experience I was expecting when I applied. However, the modules have been adapted a d delivered online - with industry relevant teaching.
Everything this year has been online
My course has been online but the campus is nice, clean and modern
My overall experience for this year has been amazing, I just cant describe how friendly everyone is here, and how amazing all the teachers are. Newman university is an amazing university to be aswell as being able to study well with the help of lectures and also being able to get to know everyone very easily as it's a small university were you can get to know everyone really well. I am stunned with the amount of support I had got this year and I'm sure I will with the last 3 years of my degree.
My tutors have helped me alot for my career at the start of my interview I even was given options and ideas that these are some of the jobs I could get into after my degree, and even while studying at newman it have gave me more of an idea as to what I wanted to do for my career just from the help of my tutors and l the support that was available for me to were I am now.
My course was mainly taught through online classes due to COVID-19. The way we was taught was through zoom classes were students and lectures would speak and communicate with each other at home while speaking or even seeing each other on camera. Contact for tutors was always there for us students no matter what, lectures or even our own personal tutors helped us through everything no matter what the support was always available at Newman University.
At facilities at newman have always been spotless since the start of my year till now there has never even been a lack of facilities. At newman university things were always clean and spotless such lecture rooms, toilets, canteen, floors, chairs, doors etc. Theres always been equipment available at times I wouldn't have a laptop to use but there was always plenty to have available at newman in the library.
The personal support by the university is amazing. The university has all kinds of support such as if you have health problem theyll be teachers to help you out with that or even stress you may go through such as your uni work.
This year was ruined by COVID and it was all online. We hardly received any contact or support from lecturers and were left in the dark having to teach ourselves all year.
I think my experience has been challenging but due to the support overall has been amazing and as a university student I am grateful with the help I have received and my university has not let me down.
The careers service is very effective as they supported me with layout of my CV and tips of careers which has been very helpful.
My lectures have given me a lot of support through online, emails and in person during the three years. They always give me as many tutorials as I like which is very effective for me as I could discuss learning outcomes to them or have questions ready with some plans.
The university library is one of the most effective facility that I use regularly and the staff that work in the library are very useful and support me when I am struggling with printing credit or books.
The student support and writing mentors including workshops too are very useful and I appreciate their support as I have seen an increase in my grades due to their help and advice they have given me which I can use for future academic work. Sometimes in life their is unexpected situation and affects my health but the university extension team are very understanding and do extend my deadlines which makes me feel less stress
Overall my experience at the university was mediocre. There were some module which were very interesting and practical. However, there were some where the lecturer just wanted to get it over and done without giving a proper insight in what the module is about and how it will be used in a real world situation.
Overall alright experience, not joined any clubs or societies due to lack of information and lockdown. Access to facilities like a library, gym and lectures on campus was limited only, which contributed to less good experience. However overall standard of facilities seems good.
