The annual Whatuni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs) highlight the incredible work carried out by institutions for their students. Due to Covid restrictions, this year’s awards were not collected on uni campuses as usual, but instead based on submissions from institutions, which were then judged by our special student panel.

Considering the circumstances with Covid-19, my overall experience has been great. I have had the chance to join many great research groups and meet people within my department. The support from my supervisors has been amazing.
Good so far
Now, anything taught is online. I have regular contact with supervisors.
It is hard to say at the moment, because I have mostly been working off-campus.
This year has not been great due to covid and also because I have had 0 contact hours due to the nature of my course. Despite this lecturers and seminar leaders have provided us with a lot of learning material and content to keep us occupied and they try hard to make seminars and lectures entertaining and to create a valued learning experience for all.
Careers central has been a good guidance tool.
Support is good when I need it, only an email away from help
The university is very well maintained including a good security staff team
Many facilities are advertised on campus and it is easy to access them while feeling safe
I mean everything has been online but considering that 2 out of my 4 modules were independent projects (one of which being my dissertation) that hasn't made much of an impact. I'm lucky that I was able to stay in Norwich so I could access the library as only being able to use stuff available online would have made writing my diss pretty difficult.
Course and lecturers have been amazing. Facilities have been great when I have had the chance to use them. Well-being are good but I feel like they could do better. Would be 5 star if could be more in person I think as I don’t feel like I’ve had the full uni experience especially on a practical course.
it has been an enjoyable experience studying at Newman and all the staff have been very supportive and informative as all work has been done online over zoom. The. taught sessions online have been successful and all lectures are helpful and respond quick to any problems you have.
I have only been in once, due to COVID however it was very clean and hygienic.
My experience in Sussex was very positive! From the education I was provided to the support and also the student socities I engaged with! I highly recomment this university for stimulating and exciting learning opportunities!
The career advisors are really helpful and informative. Many opportunities advertised by the uni career hub. This year we had several guest speakers too from different areas from development, to policy research etc
The tutors are reqlly passionate about their subject and they show it by the quality of education they provide. Most of the content is updated and relevant.
Pre COVID:Everything is clean and spacious howeverit can get overcrowded. There is new equipment as well and plans for new study spaces.
Excellent student support entailing wellbeing, disabilities and counselling. However the waiting list cansometimes be a bit long.
This year has been a difficult year to say the least. The transition to online learning was made easy by the university and this has been a highlight for me. Some lecturers have not been as supportive as others and this has proved to be difficult sometimes. Nevertheless, I am going to continue onto another course with Newman.
I currently work in a primary school. This has meant that I haven't needed to access career support so far, however within my course, lots of opportunities and careers have been discussed. This has meant that I have started to consider different job opportunities that I may have when I have finished my whole course.
Although a huge positive to this course in my third year has been that I can attend lectures via zoom, a small minority of lecturers have not been as awarding. Overall, the standard of teaching has been satisfactory and with the guidance of the more knowledgeable tutors, I believe this course could be outstanding. With this in mind, I do consider that we have been in a pandemic and several of the tutors have left to move on to other things. Previous years have not been as challenging and I have really enjoyed attending Newman University. In the future, I hope the option to remain remotely joining classes as this has meant that my commute isn't an issue.
Although not attending the university campus this year, I have previously found that the campus has been a lovely, clean environment to work in. The starbucks coffee station in the main reception area was always my favourite and this was the ideal pick me up when working in the library.
Emails regarding wellbeing groups, disability groups, mental health support and other various groups are always being distributed. This allows for the groups to be promoted. Although I haven't joined any groups myself, my friend has received lots of help from student support. This has been surrounding her dyspraxia diagnosis and then further help to support her GCSE maths qualification.
I believe that most modules have been carried out well this year, however I have found the workload difficult to complete, due to COVID circumstances. The assignments have been okay, but myself and my friends felt guilty for contacting the lecturers for help based upon the assignments, as some seemed very busy. It has been hard to keep motivated during COVID with university work generally, but this year has gone well overall. The library staff have been extremely helpful!
It’s not been they way I would of wanted to do 2nd year on a drama degree, however it has been an interesting experience of acting. The uni have done their best to help us achieve what we would be if we were in the studio
I’ve not personally looked into it how ever I know people that do and I’ve heard good feedback
Due to covid we are online for most of our lectures, apart from one module however you have done this in the best way possible. Contacting our tutors is easier and a reliable way
The building that I’m in for my course, is the best building I could think off it’s so easy to book studio space that isn’t timetabled in, aswell as any equipment I may need is easy to get a hold of
Amazing experience, but the fact that it was online made some experiences less enjoyable. There was constant support from the staff, they always answered questions really fast through emails.
There are always emails sent regarding career opportunities
A lot of academic support is constantly given which was amazing , however as it was online this year i didnt think it was worth the value.
Great, regardless of the pandemic i was able to access a lot of facilities
