Introduction
The MA/MFA Dance Performance is designed to foster a supportive and dynamic environment within which students can challenge and explore their voice, agency and artistry as dance performers.
Students form the membership of Trinity Laban Dance Collective (TLDC), a framework for working which foregrounds the experience of the individual whilst at the same time suggesting collectivity and collaboration as a mode of artistic enquiry. Throughout the year, TDLC will undertake a range of different creative projects, workshops and classes, delivered with exceptional guidance from faculty and guest artists and culminating in a range of performance opportunities, artistic outputs, dialogues and debates.
Programme Details
Students on the MA programme are immersed in an intensive year of physical and creative exploration.
Regular classes in embodied dance techniques provide the groundwork for exploring different movement styles and methodologies.
Creative projects with guest artists will have a range of different outputs from theatre performances to site specific events, durational installations, film work and other. Guest artists and collaborative opportunities help students to broaden and develop their professional networks.
Across all activities, the experience of the dancer as an individual is centered and celebrated. Ongoing dialogue and debate create space for critical reflection alongside regular feedback and independent research.
You will become part of the wider postgraduate community at Trinity Laban, with shared activities and opportunities to collaborate across both music and dance faculties. Facilities in our award-winning building include an outstanding library, state of the art studios, a 300-seat theatre and access to our fitness gym and Pilates studio alongside costume, production and AV support.
The MA Dance Performance is a one year (full time) taught programme, culminating in an independent research project.
Normally a UK undergraduate degree in an appropriate or related subject, or an overseas award of equivalent standard (e.g. USA degree – GPA 3.00 or above). Applicants without formal qualification, who may have the appropriate levels of professional experience are invited to complete Trinity Laban’s recognition of prior learning (RPL) process.
