From migration and urbanisation to climate change and AI, develop the skills to understand and respond to the accelerating changes affecting people and the planet. Our BA Geography programme combines our global reputation for leading research and social justice with study across the full breadth of the discipline, from health, globalisation, and urban life to the remaking of societies in response to environmental change. You will learn from leading academics and guest practitioners, combining conceptual insight with real-world expertise, while developing the analytical and practical skills needed to address contemporary challenges.
From fieldwork to your future careerOur BA Geography programme is designed for curious, ambitious students who can see how combining the analytical training of the social sciences and humanities with technical skills is what sets geographers apart. In your first semester, you will gain international fieldwork experience in Malta as you examine sustainability dilemmas in a region where urban development, tourism, migration, and environmental challenges intersect. Throughout the programme, you will also make the most of our London location, using the city itself as a learning environment, from examining urban consumption cultures in Spitalfields to studying water engineering at Walthamstow Wetlands. Research-led teaching will equip you with geospatial and analytical expertise while developing a deep understanding of human geography's core concerns: place, scale, inequality, and meaning. You will explore how environmental change is reshaping everything from urban heat strategies to the labour demands of green technologies. In your final year, you will complete an independent research project on a topic of your own choosing, applying the full range of skills developed across your degree to an original piece of geographical enquiry. There is no single story about BA Geography graduates. Whether in the private or public sector, you will find them applying their skills to twenty-first-century challenges at organisations including KPMG, PwC, the Met Office, the Environment Agency, and the Wellcome Trust, among many others. If you want to combine technical proficiency with the creative and critical thinking skills needed to make real change, the BA Geography programme offers a rare combination of curiosity-driven learning and career opportunity.
