Fine Art - BA (Hons)

Bristol, UWE

My favorite thing is the access to studios although I wish they were open more. I also enjoy all the events and community on campus.

The facilities and technical staff at Bower are fantastic: metalwork, woodwork, ceramics, casting, enamelling, VR, 3D scan/print, pattern-cutting, screen printing, to name a few. The library is a friendly, relaxed and inspiring space to study. Student project co-ordinators to advise and book fabrication inductions and sessions. Spike Island is well situated in the Bristol Art community. The tutors and technical staff create a supportive environment for creating exciting work. There are so many opportunities to explore and expand your practise: project spaces, visiting lecturers, artist talks, gallery visits, weekly PAL (Peer Assisted Learning) sessions, regular group and 1:1 tutorials. UWE also provide opportunities to connect with the professional world beyond university within the Professional Practice module each year. There are established connections with Spike Island Gallery, Associates and Fellowship, the Arnolfini, The Watershed. There are regular student rep meetings with the university faculty which ensures that the student voices are heard. The only thing I would improve is the transport service between Spike and Bower - I highly recommend getting a bike! It's only a 7min ride, but a 30min walk.

No access or free access to some needed facilities. Understaffed studios and workspaces. No teaching lectures. The Bower Ashton campus is really nice to work in.

I love the facilities on Bower Ashton, and the beautiful scenery around it. I just wish it could be more acknowledged by the university as much as Frenchay campus. Frenchay has a lot more events going on everyday and has better transportation links which go directly to campus whereas Bower Ashton doesnt at all.

Great so far all the teachers are friendly and knowledgeable and the facilities are excellent. Although there has been a world wide pandemic they have done there best to accommodate for example they offer 1 to 1 art workshops which are extremely helpful and are easy to sign up for.
