The Foundation Degree (FdSc) in Clinical Practice for Pharmacy Technicians is designed for qualified Pharmacy Technicians who wish to advance their clinical expertise, develop their professional practice and take on greater responsibilities within pharmacy services. Delivered fully online over four years on a part-time basis, the programme combines Level 4 and Level 5 study, allowing students to balance their education with employment.
At Level 4, students will develop their academic and clinical knowledge through modules covering academic writing, patient monitoring, applied therapeutics and the management of common medical conditions. They will also explore the management of clinical pharmacy services and the role of quality improvement in enhancing patient care and service delivery.
At Level 5, students will build on this foundation through more advanced modules focusing on clinical consultation and examination skills, medicines optimisation, evidence-based practice, advanced pharmacokinetics and pharmacogenomics. They will also explore health promotion and develop the skills needed to lead change and improvements within clinical pharmacy services. Throughout the programme, students will be encouraged to apply their learning within their own workplace, developing their confidence, clinical reasoning, critical thinking and ability to contribute to safe, effective and person-centred care.
