You will turn your Level 5 qualification – such as a diploma, teaching apprenticeship or foundation degree – into a full Bachelor’s degree. If you have been in the industry but don't have a level 5 qualification we are able to help you develop a portfolio of evidence to enable you to access this top up qualification. This generalist education programme has been designed to help those with experience in educational settings to develop their skills and knowledge and complement their current qualifications and experience with a BA (Hons) degree.Education has a fundamental role to play in personal, social and professional development. Through education, you can make a difference in the lives of many learners from different and diverse backgrounds. This degree offers you the opportunity to develop the professional knowledge, skills and understanding required to follow a career in education.You will become aware of the factors affecting learners' achievement so that you can promote continuous improvement and educational achievement among all students in a wide array of educational institutions. The course will also give you the tools to become a reflective practitioner and an independent, critical problem-solver.Within the course you will allow you to explore topical issues relating to education and society; and has been designed with current and previous students, school leaders and a range of education stakeholders to help design a course which will provide you with the skills needed in today's educational environments.The courses at University Centre Peterborough are studied in smaller class sizes compared with other universities, a typical class size is under 20 students.
What can this course lead to?After graduating, you will be able to gain a position as a Teaching Assistant within inPrimary or Secondary schools.You will also be able to apply for a PGCE in Primary or Secondary Education, or apply for an MA in a field related to education.Previous students have also been offered places in the School Direct and Teach East programmes, and have progressed to teaching roles via this route.Other career options related to Education can include working in the Education Department of a local council or going on to work in education based research.

● A minimum of 400 hours pre-entry work experience within an education setting. ● A confirmed placement of a minimum of 40 days per academic year, including identification of a workplace mentor.● Successful completion of a 240 credit level 5 qualification, FD equivalent ● GCSE English language and mathematics at a minimum of grade C or grade 4 or equivalent● If English is not the first language, an IELTS score of 6.0 or above is required, or an equivalent English Language qualification.● Admission to the programme is also possible for mature students without formal qualifications but with equivalent professional experience. This is called Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning and it is demonstrated through the production of a portfolio of your experiential learning.
