I have loved every minute of my student experience. As a mature student there aren't people my own age in my classes, but having societies that meet outwith classes has really made me feel included.

It is very encouraging and supportive to study, pushing for the best. A lot of different things in campus to enjoy and make use of. It could be improved by adding more seats in the library to ensure studying can be done!

The University of Aberdeen stands out as an exceptional place to study for many reasons. One of the most remarkable aspects is the level of student support. When I first arrived, I found it challenging to navigate the campus. I approached a student union officer for help, and not only did she provide me with a map, but she also walked with me until I felt confident finding my way. That simple act of kindness made a lasting impression and gave me a strong start to university life. The lecturers are equally supportive, showing genuine interest in our academic progress, overall well-being, and future aspirations. Several of my lecturers took the time to ask about my career goals and offered insightful advice. They encouraged me to reach out even after graduation if I needed guidance — a gesture that meant a lot to me. Across the university, staff members are consistently polite, approachable, and eager to help. Whether at the Library, the Café, or the Student Info Hub, I always felt welcomed and supported. A strong culture of mutual respect between staff and students fosters a sense of belonging and confidence to ask for help or directions. Safety is another key strength of the University of Aberdeen. The campus environment feels secure, and that peace of mind allows students to focus on their studies and personal growth. Academically, the courses have empowered me to become more informed, confident, and purposeful. I now understand my career path and feel equipped to contribute meaningfully to my community, support organisational growth, and create opportunities for others. Areas for Improvement While the university excels in many areas, there’s always room to grow. One area that could be enhanced is the visibility, accessibility, and widely promoted mentorship, which could help students better prepare for life after university. Expanding mentorship programs — especially for international students — would further strengthen the sense of inclusion and support.

The University of Aberdeen is a great place to study because of the varied support from campus staff. Visiting the Library, Cafe, and Student hub was a wonderful experience as staff are willing to assist in any way possible. The lecturers are also amazing. They are not only interested in their lectures but also in the well-being and after-school life of the students.

I really enjoy all of the facilities, the opportunities given by the uni, the union, and the campus. Uni systems are clean and easy to use, and offerings of societies and social opportunities are plentiful.

Best Aspects Beautiful Campus and Location: The campus is steeped in history, with stunning architecture, particularly King's College Chapel and the picturesque cobblestone pathways. Located in the charming city of Aberdeen, there’s also access to beautiful coastlines and natural landscapes. Supportive Academic Environment: Lecturers and tutors are generally supportive and approachable, creating an environment conducive to learning. The university offers a variety of academic resources, from study skills workshops to personal tutoring, which can help students succeed. Diverse Community: With students from all over the world, Aberdeen is very inclusive and diverse. This makes for a culturally enriching experience, both in the classroom and in student life. Strong Research Focus: As a research-driven institution, the University of Aberdeen provides numerous opportunities for students to engage in meaningful research projects, contributing to a strong academic foundation, particularly for students interested in pursuing higher studies. Active Student Union and Societies: The Aberdeen University Students' Association (AUSA) is active, with societies and sports clubs for nearly every interest. These offer a great way to meet friends and pursue new hobbies. Areas for Improvement Accommodation and Cost of Living: While Aberdeen is relatively affordable compared to other cities, student accommodation could be improved in terms of quality and availability, especially considering maintenance requests and room allocations during busy terms. Weather: Although the climate isn’t something the university can change, the long, dark winters can feel challenging for students, especially those from warmer climates. The campus could add more wellness initiatives to help students adjust to the seasonal changes. Administrative Support: Some students find that administrative processes, such as course registration or financial aid processing, can be slow or confusing at times. Streamlining these systems and making them more accessible would be beneficial.
