A team of enthusiastic and dedicated elected student officers, who focus their energy on bringing students together, run the Students' Union at Surrey. To ensure students have the best possible experience during their time at Surrey, there is a busy timetable of social and recreational events and activities organised throughout the year.
There are four zones making up the union: voice, activity, support and community. These four teams work together to represent the students’ needs and ensure that a student’s time at the university is fulfilling and memorable.
University of Surrey students on Whatuni say:
“The student union is very active and run lots of events over the year.”
“The academic hives, personal tutors, and the union have been so so supportive. Speaking of the Union, we are very lucky to have the Marquee which has allowed us an additional social space to hang out in. As well as creating jobs for students.”
“I feel like the Student Union have done what they can to allow us to have in-person events and allow us to interact with each other.”
University is the ideal opportunity for students to break out of their comfort zone, find a new hobby, or pursue an existing passion with like-minded people. Societies are made up of groups of students interested in a common theme who arrange events and meetings throughout the year to bring its members together.
For students wanting to share in the magic of Harry Potter or reckon the Archery society may just hit the mark, joining one of the university’s 180+ sports clubs and societies can help individuals to make friends and memories for life. Alternatively, if there is something a student is passionate about that doesn’t currently exist, students can create their own by submitting an application to the Students’ Union.
University of Surrey students on Whatuni say:
“Good variety, bit of everything.”
“Good studying environment with plenty of additional activities to add to the experience.”
“So many societies couldn’t name them all.”
The university is ideally situated just a short 10-minute walk from the centre of town, with a frequent bus service running late into the night. Bustling with bars, restaurants and a huge variety of shops, there is something for everyone.
For the avid music fans, movie buffs, or even swimmers, Guildford is home to a cinema, lido, a number of music venues and three theatres. A variety of exciting performances are held throughout the year, so there is always something to see!
For students struck by a moment of wanderlust and wanting to travel, Guildford is the perfect base from which to explore, with great road, rail and air connections. The university’s location is just 34 minutes away from the UK’s largest international airports, Heathrow and Gatwick, and on a direct train line between Portsmouth and London Waterloo.
