The University of Surrey Students' Union is run by a team of enthusiastic and dedicated elected student officers who focus their energy on bringing students the best possible university experience. The Union consists of four main zones: Voice, Activity, Support and Community, and aims to represent student’s thoughts and concerns, while making sure their time at the university is memorable. Each zone has a Vice President to oversee the activities, as well as part time Zone Officers who can be contacted for more information about their zone and relevant events.
The Student union hosts social events throughout the year to ensure students can benefit from the buzzing social life at Surrey. As well as social events, there are also informative workshops and support groups who students that may be struggling with issues such as loss and bereavement.
The university is the ideal opportunity to break out of comfort zones and find a new hobby, or pursue an existing passion with like-minded people. Societies are made up of groups of students interested in a common theme – maybe a group of students that love baking, share a geographical location or have similar religious views.
Whether students want to share in the magic of Harry Potter or think the Archery society may just hit the mark, joining one of Surrey's 140+ societies (or creating a new one!) will help students make friends and memories for life. The university also has over 40 sports clubs to join, including weightlifting, lacrosse and volleyball.
The beautiful town of Guildford is the University of Surrey's home. The campus is a 10-minute walk from the centre of town, with a frequent bus service running late into the night. Guildford is home to a cinema, lido, many music venues and three theatres. It’s also alive with bars, restaurants, and a huge variety of shops.
The nearby Surrey Hills are also full of adventure: mountain biking, climbing and canoeing are all just a stone’s throw away. Guildford is the ideal base from which to explore, with great road, rail and air connections nearby.
