The University of Surrey Students' Union is run by a team of enthusiastic and dedicated elected student officers who focus their energy on bringing students the best possible university experience. The union consists of four main zones: Voice, Activity, Support and Community, aiming to represent student’s thoughts and concerns, while making sure their time at the university is memorable. Each zone has a Vice President to oversee the activities, as well as part time zone officers who can be contacted for more information about their zone and relevant events.
The Student Union hosts social events throughout the year to ensure students can benefit from the buzzing social life at Surrey. As well as social events, there are also informative workshops and support groups for students that may be struggling with issues such as loss and bereavement.
Joining a club or society is a great way for students to explore new or current interests, while meeting people from outside of their course or department, often forming friendships which can last a lifetime.
The university has a wide variety of options, spanning a vast array of interests. Whether students want to share in the magic of Harry Potter or think the Archery society may just hit the mark, joining one of Surrey's 140+ societies (or creating a new one!) will help students make friends and memories for life. The university also has over 40 sports clubs to join, including weightlifting, lacrosse and volleyball.
The beautiful town of Guildford is the University of Surrey's home. The campus is a 10-minute walk from the centre of town, with a frequent bus service running late into the night. Guildford is home to a cinema, lido, many music venues and three theatres. It’s also alive with bars, restaurants, and a huge variety of shops.
The nearby Surrey Hills are also full of adventure: mountain biking, climbing and canoeing are all just a stone’s throw away. Guildford is the ideal base from which to explore, with great road, rail and air connections nearby.
