Students' Union

The students' union at Southampton is one of the largest in the UK and is completely independent from the university. There are hundreds of clubs and societies to join, allowing students to try something new alongside their postgraduate study.

It is run by students, for students, and is made up of a team of elected student sabbatical officers, as well as student leaders and student officers, who have been elected to help ensure the smooth running of the SU and to represent the voice of their fellow pupils.

Students studying at Southampton will have the opportunity to get involved in the everyday activities of their students’ union, or the shaping and delivery of the union’s overall strategy and ambitions. On top of that, there is a packed schedule of exciting events, activities and club socials for students to get involved in whatever their interests are.

Clubs and Societies

The University of Southampton offers hundreds of clubs and societies for students to get involved with during their time learning.. These societies cover a wide range of activities and interests, so students are sure to find their perfect group. For those who want to create something new, the university’s students’ union is there to support them in creating a brand-new society for like-minded people. Creating a society offers a great opportunity for them to showcase their leadership skills and sense of initiative.

In addition to clubs and societies, there is also the chance for aspiring journalists to join the university's student media, which has its very own TV channel, radio station, and website and entertainment magazine.

City Life

New students will belong to a rich, diverse community of like-minded people who are challenging the boundaries of knowledge and technology. Students will be academically challenged, supported and encouraged to reach their full potential. 

Depending on their course, postgraduate students could study in either Southampton or Winchester. Both are student-friendly cities with plenty of green spaces, history and culture. These cities are some of the safest in the UK and are well connected to the rest of Europe.
