Taught

A carefully curated combination of lectures, seminars and tutorials make up the University of Salford’s taught postgraduate degree schedule. Some courses offer options for part-time, evening and weekend attendance, making the university’s high-quality education available to those who are already employed or have other commitments during the week.

For vocational subjects, modules include practical work placements, networking opportunities, live projects and exhibitions. Work is typically assessed through essays, coursework, exams, practical work and independent research. A dissertation is required for a number of subjects during the final months of study.

Research

The university’s renowned curriculum is supported by the quality of its research output, with each academic department supporting its own fully-equipped research centre.

In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, 50 per cent of research at the University of Salford was judged to be world-leading or internationally excellent, and 90% of the research was judged to be of international quality.

100% of the impact in Social Work and Social Policy was rated as outstanding or very considerable, and 80% of research in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials was rated as world-leading or internationally excellent. Over 85% of research into the Environment was deemed as world-leading and internationally excellent. 

Salford Business School also increased its grade point average by 33% from the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, and its overall position from 69th to 54th in Business and Management.

Distance learning

The university offers the option of distance learning in a number of subject areas. Distance learning students will be allocated a personal tutor to provide guidance throughout the course. Further information is available online.
