Plymouth’s halls of residence continuously receive high praise from residents. The spaciousness, safety, closeness to campus and welcoming environments attract a lot of praise in particular.

Undergraduate students are guaranteed a place in halls on two conditions – firstly, that Plymouth is their firm first choice university, secondly, that they’ve applied for their accommodation by the deadline stated on the University’s official website. All details can be found on their accommodation web page. Prices vary depending on where you stay and how long your contract is.

The halls of residence on campus are:

Prices for 2021 University-managed halls need updating to the following:

  • Drake (en-suites, three bed flats and studios available; prices range from £158 - £183 a week)
  • Gilwell (£102 a week)
  • Radnor (all en-suite rooms; prices range from £149.50 - £171 a week)
  • Robbins (en-suites available; prices range from £102 - £136 a week)
  • Mary Newman (all en-suite rooms; prices range from £158 - £164 a week)
  • Pilgrim (all en-suite rooms; prices range from £149.50 -£171.50 a week)

For medical students training at the Treliske Hospital, there are direct let halls available in Truro and Cornwall.

University of Plymouth students on Whatuni say:

“My accommodation is a short walk away from the campus and in the centre of town. There are a useful team of maintenance and reception staff who are very helpful. The building is always clean and I always feel safe.”

“My accommodation is fantastic. It is a short walk away from the uni, and an even shorter walk away from the seafront!...Rooms are spacious, full of storage space and are all ensuite. The communal areas, such as the kitchen, are very modern and we even have a cleaner once a week as standard. The most impressive part of my accommodation is the maintenance staff. Any complaint can be logged online, and it is usually fixed within 24hrs.”

The University’s library is a great academic resource. Open 24/7, 365 days a year, your studies are fully supported with around 350,000 books and multimedia items in addition to 14,000 journal subscriptions. There you will find all of the resources you need in order to carry out research (books, journals, electronic resources) in a range of study environments (quiet study places, a café, bookable study rooms) with experienced and friendly staff to help you.

Plymouth retain impressive facilities in their Faculty of Health: Medicine, Dentistry and Human Sciences, Arts and Humanities and Science and Engineering faculties. These include:

  • Dark rooms
  • Studio spaces
  • Print and letterpress facilities
  • Performance spaces, including a 200-person capacity theatre
  • Media Hub in which to loan a large range of equipment
  • BETA Enterprise program for business students, where weekly networking and advice sessions are available
  • A range of medical research labs and simulators

At Plymouth, Marine and Ocean Studies is a particularly popular subject field. Equipment owned by the University to assist with scientific research includes:

  • A fleet of boats equipped with data research and measurement tools, as well as internal laboratories
  • Field equipment, such as a multi-beam sonar system
  • A designated Marine Building where renewable energy solutions are created
  • A tethered underwater robot
  • Marine Station built with wetlabs and lecture facilities
  • An atmospheric observatory

Students are happy with facilities available to them, especially with round-the-clock access to the Charles Seale-Hayne Library.
