Leicester's Students’ Union is the representative voice of its student membership and works to establish a positive and constructive dialogue between students and staff. It also functions as one of the university’s social engagement hubs, offering a huge selection of clubs and societies covering arts, sports, faiths, national cultures, politics, campaigning, hobbies and student media.
In recent years, over £20 million has been spent on rebuilding and refurbishing the Students' Union building and facilities, which is home to the only on-campus O2 Academy live music venue in the UK, hosting established and new bands, plus club events and student nights.

The university offers more than 250 clubs and special interest societies covering a huge range of areas, from film, arts and theatre clubs to national cultural societies, faith and language groups. There are societies for politics, campaigning, hobbies and student media, and a massive selection of casual and competitive sporting societies, ensuring students are bound to find a society that appeals to their tastes at the University of Leicester’s Students’ Union.
Sports range from archery and badminton to fencing, table tennis and even ultimate Frisbee. Fortunate students may even catch a glimpse of the Students’ Union mascot, Gary the Griffin, who can usually be found cheering on Leicester’s teams.

Festivals from many cultures are an annual event, including the largest Diwali celebrations outside India and the UK's second largest Caribbean Carnival. The UK's longest running comedy festival takes over the city every winter with hundreds of shows and events across Leicester every February.
Leicester is a great sporting city. It is home to Leicester Tigers, Leicestershire County Cricket Club, Leicester Riders (basketball) and 2016 Premier League Champions Leicester City.
