You should only add a Clearing choice on UCAS once you have spoken to the university and they have asked you to apply.
On Results Day you'll be able to log into UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) and monitor your offer status. You will be notified automatically if you have been accepted by your Conditional Firm (CF). If for any reason that is not possible you will be released to your Conditional Insurance (CI) choice.
If you meet the conditions of your Conditional Insurance (CI) choice, you will automatically move to Unconditional Firm (UF) with them when your CF choice releases you. This will be confirmed on UCAS. If for any reason your Conditional Insurance (CI) choice is unable to accept you then you will be released into Clearing. It is vital to keep checking UCAS frequently, things can change very quickly!
If you no longer want to go to either your CF or CI choice you also have the option to self-release into Clearing allowing you to find an alternative course at a different institution.
