The University of Hull prides itself on helping students discover how to reach for the best by offering teaching facilities, opportunities, ambition and inspiration to succeed. With beliefs like that, it’s no surprise that Hull is the only Official University Partner of Team GB – a partnership that is promising a wide range of opportunities for students across all subjects.
The university’s inclusive and diverse single-site campus is home to more than 15,000 students from around 100 countries. As the 14th oldest university in England, students will benefit from the long-established links and expertise developed over the universities 90-plus year history.
The university spreads its subjects and specialisms across four faculties:
- Faculty of Arts, Culture and Education
- Faculty of Health Sciences (including Hull York Medical School)
- Faculty of Science and Engineering
- Faculty of Business, Law and Politics
At Hull students are taught by experts across chosen fields. The same people who are doing the research, writing the textbooks, authoring academic papers, attracting funding, speaking at conferences, collaborating with industry, contributing to the national press and discussing their subject on radio or TV. Every time students listen to one of their lectures, pick their brains in a tutorial or plug into their network of contacts, the students will be getting a major boost to their own prospects.
The university was awarded Silver in the 2018 Teaching Excellence Framework – a Government initiative to recognise excellence in teaching and learning. A reason for this was the high level of student satisfaction with teaching and academic support on offer, which tends to lead to excellent student outcomes.
The university has also appeared twice in Universities UK’s list of ‘100 discoveries by British universities that have changed the world’. This was in recognition of their globally renowned breakthrough in liquid crystal displays, facilitating the technology for screens on phones, TVs and laptops, and for their pioneering work on a bone density scanner which enabled earlier detection of osteoporosis.
Unlike many other universities, Hull’s campus is set on a single site not far from the city-centre. Among its mix of traditional ivy-covered buildings, shiny new multimillion-pound labs, modern library and lecture theatres, students will find the majority of the student accommodation only ever a few minutes’ walk away from core facilities.
The leafy Avenues area, where the campus is located, is home to some of Hull’s best cafes, bars and independent shops. Only a short bus ride away are the major high street stores, cinemas and tourist attractions of Hull city centre – with the KC Stadium, home to Hull City AFC football club and Hull FC, one of the city’s two top-flight rugby league teams – also nearby.
