Overview

Huddersfield won the first Global Teaching Excellence Award in 2017, awarded by the Higher Education Academy. It recognises the University’s commitment to world-class teaching and our success in developing students as independent learners and critical thinkers.

Huddersfield is a TEF (Teaching Excellence Framework) gold-rated University. One of only two gold-rated universities in Yorkshire and the Humber region. Based on the evidence available, the TEF Panel judged that the University of Huddersfield delivers consistently outstanding teaching, learning and outcomes for its students. It is of the highest quality found in the UK.

Students here are taught by some of the best lecturers in the country. Huddersfield is first in England for professionally qualified teaching staff (HEFCE Dec 2016) and the UK's leading university for the receipt of National Teaching Fellowships for the past nine years.

The University is number one in England for the proportion of staff with teaching qualifications (HEFCE, Dec 2016), meaning students learn from knowledgeable and well-qualified teachers and academics. Teaching methods vary depending on the course, but may include lectures, seminars, tutorials and practical workshops.

100% of undergraduate students have the opportunity to undertake professional work-related experience at Huddersfield including the opportunity of placements abroad. Students have gained invaluable experience working for such brands as Burberry, HSBC, Unilever and The BBC. The University recognises the value of real-world experience and is a top 10 university in England for work placement years in industry (HESA 15/16) and 95.4% of undergraduate students go on to work or further study within six months of graduating (DLHE 2015/16).
