There are five full time and four part-time officers forming the Student Union. They all work together to ensure the union runs smoothly, while organising activities and social events for all the students. They also work at making sure every student’s voice is heard by the university and local community.
Sporty? Get fit with HertSquad
Students can find their place, whether it’s representing the university in a sports team, making new friends on the playing field, turning pro or just trying an activity for the first time. The university has a mission to offer everybody the opportunity to join in and to get active, regardless of ability. Healthy bodies power healthy minds and getting involved in physical activity will really lift the student experience.
Social Butterfly? Get out and have some fun
At Herts, the university is surrounded by culture and entertainment to suit all tastes and interests! Whether a student wants to see a concert or play in London or want to watch a game at one of the London stadiums, there's always something going on, both on and off campus.

All about experiences? Get involved with societies and volunteering
Societies are like mini communities that bring together students with similar interests. They range from academic and cultural to music and social. Current societies at the university include the French Speaking Society, the Art Society, the Baking Society and the Chess Club. Sports fans will be able to join a club such as Judo, Football, Dance, Basketball, Badminton and American Football. There is also a student radio, TV station and two print publications, where students will be able to get involved and gain some hands-on media experience.
Equally, the Give it a Go programme arranges sports, trips, workshops and activities for students to get involved in.
