The Master of Arts (MA) degree is a historic degree structure that gives you a great amount of flexibility and choice in your studies across humanities and social sciences. You can choose a mix of subjects in your first two years, before deciding which one(s) you would like to specialise in for your final two years. You can graduate with either single honours – for example MA (Hons) Politics – or joint honours – for example MA (Hons) Politics and Economics. Suitably qualified students can enter at level 2 (2nd year) if they wish.
All of our courses offer September start dates. Some of our courses also have a January intake including courses in Science and Engineering, Business, Nursing and Medical Education. Please visit our website for more information.
We accept a variety of qualifications, such as A-levels, BTECs, the International Baccalaureate and Scottish Highers/Advanced Highers.
Each course has its own specific entry requirements, including academic qualifications, references and sometimes the requirement to have studied a particular subject.
At the University of Dundee, we provide the support and guidance to help you transition into University life and achieve your educational goals. Our support services and staff are on hand to help, whether it is for practical, personal, health, academic or financial support.
Dundee University Students’ Association (DUSA) lies at the heart of the campus, like all good unions there is more than just support on offer, you can find food and drink venues and a supermarket. Close by you'll find our Sport and Active Health Centre and library.
If you receive an offer, once you have firmly accepted, you can apply to our student accommodation. New full-time undergraduate students are guaranteed one offer of a place in first year if they apply before the deadline (Ts&Cs apply). There is also private let options available for postgraduate students.
In University-owned accommodation, you will have your own private bedroom and ensuite, with a shared kitchen and living space. Alongside great accommodation close to the campus, we also take away the stress of bills for heat, light, and Wi-Fi, it is all included.
All our student accommodation is single occupancy, self-catered, and has 24-hour support available. Each accommodation also has its own Resident Support Team who will check in with you regularly.

The University of Dundee has an excellent record of graduate employment. The 2024 Graduate Outcomes Survey published by the Higher Education Statistics Authority (HESA) shows that 91% of University of Dundee graduates are in work or further study 15 months after graduating. The University Careers Service supports students and alumni to find relevant volunteering opportunities or work experience, internships and graduate jobs. Recently the University has been awarded outstanding Entrepreneurial University of the Year – Times Higher Education Awards 2024.
Undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships help you financially on your career path. Students can benefit from the University's generous scholarships, recognising and rewarding students for exceptional academic, community-based or other extracurricular activities. You could be eligible for up to GBP 22,500 over a four-year undergraduate degree or up to GBP 7,500 per year for a postgraduate degree (Ts&Cs apply). Tuition fees vary depending on your chosen course, but a full breakdown of fees will be provided upon application. Students can also get advice from the University while applying on the typical living costs required for studying in Scotland. International students must provide proof of funds for their tuition fees (a bank statement or a guarantee from a sponsor) as part of their application for a study visa.
