Similar to the university’s undergraduate courses, all taught postgraduate programmes follow a structure of attending lectures and seminars, while assessments include exams, essays, case studies, and coursework throughout the year. Students are assigned a personal tutor, who acts as a mentor and organises several meetings throughout the year to keep track of progress as well as any extra-curricular issues which may arise.
Students are taught the latest skills and practices relevant to their field of study to ensure they are job-ready upon graduation.
The university has a world-class reputation for its research, and offers opportunities to students to undertake a research degree at doctoral and master’s level, either full or part-time. Students will spend the majority of their time studying alone with support from an allocated supervisory team. Subjects available to research include computing, art and design, tourism and history.
UCLan has a growing and vibrant community of academic innovators producing high quality international and world-leading research across an expanded range of disciplines, which helps to inform teaching and benefit students.
The university’s academic staff have been recognised for their achievements within their subject area, and many have received awards for their work. In 2017, Lubaina Himid CBE was awarded the prestigious Turner Prize, for her contributions towards international visual arts.
The university offers a number of online degrees at postgraduate level, including MSc Digital Marketing Communications, MA Social Policy, MSc Strength and Conditioning, and MSc Food Safety Management. These programmes give the flexibility for students to organise their studies around existing commitments, or achieve a UCLan qualification from anywhere in the world.
Students learn via UCLan's learning portal, which provides all the relevant learning units and support materials to complete the course. Activities include live web seminars, research tasks and group activities with other students.
