The university accommodation team are housing professionals with great local knowledge, offering help to students before and during their studies. Housing options include halls of residence, university-managed housing, privately rented accommodation or staying with a local family.
All eligible students will receive an offer of university-managed or university-arranged accommodation.
Halls of residence
There are over 2,000 halls of residence places, offering a mix of catered and self-catered accommodation, all with shared communal areas and a kitchen.
Renting locally
The university manages and let houses to our students on behalf of private landlords. This gives students the benefits of living in the private sector but the security of paying rent to the university.
The university also hold a database of other privately rented properties that meet our standards which students can access to find accommodation. Nearly a third of first years live in privately rented accommodation.
There is also a private Facebook group where students can find flatshares and housemates.
Homestay
A good option for students looking for a more supportive environment while they settle into university. Students can live with a family, couple or single person in the city.

There has also been £27 million invested in the development of halls of residence and support facilities at Varley Park. At the start of your second year, you will benefit from a new Students’ Union and enhanced fitness facilities, a major new academic building with social and event space and a pedestrian bridge. In your third year new social space opens in the Cockcroft building and landscaping of the entire campus will be completed.
During the construction, the development will provide many exciting learning opportunities for students too. These include live projects, placements and internships with the companies involved, guest lectures and site visits. The campus development has sustainability at its heart. All of the new buildings will be constructed to the highest sustainability and environmental standards.
