The Students’ Union at the University of Bedfordshire is operated by and for students. The union is led by four elected, full time student officers who are selected democratically via a student vote. The union exists to ensure that the values and views of students at the university are represented across the university community.
The Students’ Union is also the home to many student activities and services and is a hub for the vibrant student community at Bedfordshire. Students at the university are able to choose from dozens of clubs and societies across a range of interests and topics, supported by the Students’ Union.
The union also acts as a central terminal for a wide variety of support services that range across a number of different areas. Whether its finances, personal issues or housing, the Students’ Union can point students in the right direction.
The union is home to a great selection of food, drink and social venues – including the Metro Bar and Kitchen, or the Hub, which between them offer students a packed calendar of events from comedy to club nights, and quizzes.
The University of Bedfordshire prides itself on cultivating an inclusive, exciting, and active student community. This is underpinned by the wide range of clubs and societies available to students of every level. These groups are a great way for students to find others with similar interests or values across a variety of hobby, cultural, religious or sporting areas. Whether it’s the Dance Society or the Law Association, students are sure to find the right society for them. For those that have a vision for a new group, the Students’ Union will provide close and personalised support to assist them in making that a reality.
The university is well known for its sporting achievements, which are reflected in the enthusiasm of the student community. The ‘Bedfordshire Bulls’ are a prime example of this, as a group of 1,000 students across all of the campuses who take part in the British Universities and College Sports league. With only nine years of activity, they have already claimed 11 league wins.
The university maintains several modern campuses across the towns of Luton and Bedford. As a result, University of Bedfordshire students are able to study close to London while avoiding the expense associated with living in the capital city — just a 30- to 45-minute train ride away.
Luton is the largest town in Bedfordshire and surrounded by countryside if students want to take some time away from their studies. Luton Airport is only 3 miles from campus too, for those that want to travel further afield.
Bedford, where the other main campus is based, is a riverside market town with lots of parks and open spaces. The town is home to range of festivals and events each year which can be easily accessed by motorway or public transport from the rest of the country.
The region around Bedford is also home to a number of vibrant towns with their own unique cultures and communities. Milton Keynes is a growing hub which is one of the towns expanding most quickly in terms of its evening and night life, alongside the smaller but bustling town of Aylesbury. Aylesbury is filled with a variety of cultural activities, international cuisine, and edgy clubs. Between them they offer students of Bedford endless possibilities for shopping, culture, sports, and entertainment.
